Bought a piece of furniture. sent somebody to pick item up (100 miles) Turns out dimensions given are wrong (20mm too big) cant use item. Guy accepts his wife measured wrong will refund me. But ive now got to return 100 miles.
Get him to re-sell item (including correct dimensions) with your address as pickup address.
You take 10% of sale and he refunds your initial delivery costs.

being a non confrontational kind of guy (pathetic i know) plus too far and i cant be arsed... Gonna keep it, put somewhere it doesn't really fit, maybe sell it later. Nice item imo.
Thanks for your replies...

20mm out is close enough for medium and big furniture unless they specified a tolerance. Even the professional places probably have 5mm variations on the stated sizes.

Strangely, I bought a fridge for the garage from eBay last year for £10.50. The only time I have used eBay in years. Someone had £10.00 up for a week and I nipped in at the death.
Sweet.

If my wife was proven to have been measuring things smaller than they really were, there would a ruler making a second angry appearance in the bedroom tonight.

Does anyone have any idea what this "piece of furniture" actually is? I mean, if it's a cupboard for a doll's house, then 3/4" could be crucial; but if it's an armchair for eating dinner in, then the OP is a right old fusspot imo.
£11.50.

I think they should refund you in full and, either come to collect it, or leave you with it.
Alternatively negotiate a partial refund, and keep it, or sell it on.
It would be interesting to know what it is, and how much you paid for it!

Beyond those sorts of levels may need to consult eBay if bidding gets really frantic.
Better get your bids in soon cos the auction ends soon.
Probably.

I'd put a link to the item up But, dunno if i want to encourage the mirth that would (might) probably follow...
Keep it as a secret santa type of auction... with a reserve of £97.

Never trust any measure from non trades people, especially ladies.
Oh yeah
I have had many dealings with men doing diy and, in particular, one thing stands out. When they first unwrap a flat pack the first thing they do is discard the intructions!

Well it would help Jack if we knew exactly what piece of furniture it is we're bidding for anyway I'm winning at £14.01 but be warned I've bid a lot more than that

Everyone knows instructions are only to confirm that the leftover screws and widgets of various kinds are indeed just supplied as a courtesy and not as some might suggest evidence of defects in the assembling.

You're entitled to a refund. Nothing else.

Dan, Delta has trumped you. I guess his £19 is more than your max bid, as otherwise you would have had an automatic bid posted.
I am not too concerned about exactly which piece of furniture it is. It fits which is the main thing.

Sold something yesterday to an actress who's married to a very famous rock star.
I saw the name and wondered if it was her. The address looked like it was up-market, so i googled it. The Zoopla valuation was over £15m !

I don't think you'd describe them as a well known couple like others mentioned here.
He's quite low profile too. He's very well known for his music but you don't see him in the tabloids.

I was thinking maybe Dave Gilmour but he's married to a journo.
Francis Rossi's been separated for donkeys.
Sandi Kapelson Lynne's not an actress, afaia.
