This looks serious alright, worst storm in 50 years, hitting the house at around 9 tomorrow morning.
Hopefully people take heed of the media warnings and no fatalities happen.

What puzzles me is how something travelling at 80 mph can take 24 hours to cross Eire and the Irish sea Confused

I'm surprised they haven't set up a counter for the number of chimneys blown over. I expect there will be stacks.

The MSM are not happy to report news any more. They want to to make it, and are happy to create extra fear and chaos if it helps sell their nonsense.
Report pa lapsy • October 16, 2017 10:27 AM BST
I'd have agreed with you 20 minutes ago Saddo, winds picking up now though and supposed to double between 12-2 from where i am, i would give the benefit of doubt to the hype merchants for a while yet.

Facebook awash with total gowls marking themselves as "safe from storm opheila", what a shower.
Report olddesperado • October 16, 2017 2:03 PM BST
Im in the south east and its bad enough here. Trees down etc and electricity gone.

Reports of idiots swimming in the sea of the west coast.

Fcuk them but they are putting innocent lifeguards at risk too.

The civil defence should seriously give thought to not responding to acts of absolute lunacy until 100% safe to do so.

this was not a hurricane
i went to the reception desk of a miami hotel before andrew
as i confirmed my booking a bell hop picked up my bag and took it to the kerbside drop off
i was not allowed to ckeck in and the bell hop could not believe i had tried to check in
if this had been a hurricane there would have been many more deaths
galway is in a bad way but trees down and no lecky does not add up to a hurricane
tiles dont stay on the roof in a hurricane
ours did
they rattle in a bad storm here .... they didnt rattle this time
this was a bad storm .... sorry .... fake news

This was a major event alright.

You were lucky irishone , maybe the direction or something helped you.
The only reason it wasnt much worse was the excellent met eireann and news agencys getting the danger potential out there.

Buildings were secured and people stayed at home saving many lives.

I had to be out in it but believe me I was scared anywhere near a tree as they were under severe pressure.

The amount of trees down compared to lives lost is testament to the warnings put out in time .
