you have to register to watch it now if you don't have a tv licence this is a way for them to find out if you are using a computer without a licence

The registering is a recent thing (and on my TV you can still ignore it but not on pc) and I wouldn't think that a gmail account in the name of tv mctvface is going to be much use to them.  (Unless they ask you to provide a tv license number when registering).  They can just get your ISP to provide the records I would think.

It's to check if you have a tv license.

If you register you are saying you have a tv license .
If you don't have a to license they can't prove that you are watching tv
But now they can take you to court and prove that you are watching BBC programmes without a license
You have told them .

have you registered lfc1971?  There is only one license in a household, there can be many people living in a household who aren't license payers.  Does it ask you for a license number?

I haven't registered and complained to their data protection officer.  I don't need the bbc to build a profile of me to provide me with info about programs they think I'd like to watch.

If the registration was simply to prove that I was covered by a license fair enough, but that isn't what they say it is for.

They know you don't have a license , you register to use BBC i player .
that means you are watching BBC programmes without a license .
They are not trying to find out if you have a license , they know you don't
In the past watching tv there was no way to prove that you were watching tv
Now they know that you are watching on computer without a license..

Why do the BBC say you have to register, what do they say.?
Whatever it is don't believe them.

As I said above if you have to provide a TV license when registering, I can see some logic, but if I can register with the email address tv.mctvface@gmail.com, I can't see the point.

you don't have to provide a tv license, they know you don't have one.

Of course in the past silly people used to complain about the tv license ,
When all they ever needed to do was not pay it .

That meant there was the best of all possible worlds, tv programmes would continue to be on the tv, payed for by people who wanted to continue paying.

And if the programmes are there, who knows who might be watching the programmes, without a license?
I don't know.

I'd never register for anything to do with the BBC

It's a bit like Paying to Vote

but i suspect most on here would probably do that also

my only Question would be How much ...

£50 .. no they'd start kicking an Uproar on internet Forums

£20 .. probably

but £10 would be my standard charge as i know 75% of the Vegas thread would pay it without Question
