Fifty years ago Clyde Best was I believe the first black player in England. It was a momentous occasion, and I always recall him as a legend, one of the good guys.
This afternoon as I watched England u17's play Chile I observed only three white players on the England team, if they are good enough no problem.
It put me thinking though how will this country/ society look in fifty years time. It is thought provoking luckily I won"t be here then.

I seem to remember that the first black player was called Johannsen played for Leeds I think, South African.I could be wrong.

Re the bit on Clyde Best - My future father-in-law (at that time) explained to me with a perfectly straight face that he was only playing for West Ham because the Government, in conjunction with the Football League, had decreed a quote for all first division teams that they had too include at least one black player.
