What he should have said, is that keeping intelligent, curious animals in horrific conditions for their entire life, before they meet their grisly end, is as bad as paedophilia.

Then he should have enclosed a link to the nauseating video, "The film the meat industry don't want you to see"!

Meat eating is with us whether we like it or not.
Best way to get people onside is to accept that whilst trying to make them aware of the horrific conditions some animals are kept in.
Once people are aware of this it might make them think twice about consuming meat.
Getting angry with them aint gonna win many converts.

I was a vegetarian before I became a fan, but it is a big part of why I admire him.

In an interview it was said that Meat is Murder converted more people into vegetarianism than any other statement ever. I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm curious to know if the phrase meat is murder was actually invented by him, or if it was said by anone before him. Does anybody know?

I copied this paragraph from that site which mentions the main varieties which are farmed. I choose not to eat any of those and they are the ones usually found filleted and pre-packed in supermarket freezers.

Farmed fish are reared in large numbers in crowded enclosures. These may be situated on land or in rivers, lakes or at sea. The vast majority of Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout consumed around the world are farmed intensively. Other species commonly farmed include carp, catfish, sea bass, and tilapia.

You got proof of that Kenny?

Here you are mate.

Morrissey was and still is one of the faces of vegetarianism, all because of The Smiths' second album, fittingly-titled "Meat Is Murder," which contained a song of the same name. Morrissey probably single-handedly converted more people to vegetarianism than any other one person
. He was one of the people who brought this issue to the mainstream, and he wore this cause on his shoulder like no other. Many fans, after hearing that album, gave up meat for life and that's pretty amazing when you think about it. A pop-rock song about vegetarianism is something that no record company would ever push for, especially when the live version of the song was accompanied by a video backdrop of animals being slaughtered and abused.

All the venues at Morrissey shows have to go vegan or else he'll pull out of the show. In fact, there was one time where Morrissey was due to appear on a U.S. late-night talk show, but he pulled out after finding that one of the guests was going to be a cast member from the show "Duck Dynasty," a reality show about duck hunters. The animal rights organization, PETA, campaigns at all of Morrissey's shows because his fans are so dedicated to this cause, just like their idol. After The Smiths' song, "Meat Is Murder," Morrissey continued to address animal rights throughout his solo career as well with songs like "The Bullfighter Dies," which contains lyrics like "hooray, hooray / the bullfighter dies / and nobody cries."

So, not only did Morrissey attract an army of adoring fans from the '80s to the present, but he attracted fans of every demographic. Sure, Elvis and The Beatles had plenty of male, heterosexual fans, but those fans wanted to be like Elvis, Lennon or McCartney, none of them wanted to kiss or hug them like they did with Morrissey. Morrissey attracted fans who would do anything for him. They would (and still do) stage invade, they wore oversized glasses, they adopted his signature hairdo, they waved flowers at his shows, they despised the British royals like he did, they wrote letters to him, they got Morrissey tattoos and they kissed the ground he walked on. Sure, all those things are nothing new, but the fact that he converted so many people to vegetarianism is a pretty remarkable accomplishment, especially for an entertainer.

It is difficult when you compare two wrongs is it not

No one thinks paedophilia is good, quite rightly.

Eating meat is something humans have always done, it is an excellent source of protein.

The problem is the conditions we keep the animals in and the way we kill them

I would like to be a vegetarian but like most am probably too weak, some animals are just too tasty for their own good!

I donate to compassion in world farming to try and salve my soul

We can eat and use animals

As long as the animals are kept in natural conditions and have a stress and pain free death.

It is still a bit of a cop out, but better than nothing.

I bet on NH Racing as well, I need lots of forgiveness.

you can still disagree with farming practices and opting for say  meat that's produced (more) humanely for example  ..British meat production far better than in the old days  ...  free range eggs etc is another area  that's gotten better ...supermarkets took a lot of persuading to promote free range  as it's all about costs and unit price .
