I think we are now at the stage where some Premier League players are paid per week the amount earned in a YEAR by some er... Premier League footballers.

I read somewhere last week that Cheslea are set to offer Hazard £300k pw deal which will make him the highest-paid player in England.  I thought Pogba was already on £440k pw?

Anyway, there must be players at some clubs getting £6k - 9K pw.

Most of them are stealing a living. The game is rubbish to watch now, very little entertainment, but the fans keep on pouring in to watch way overpaid players run into defenders, give the ball away a lot and blast it over from eight yards out. They are then substituted on 75 minutes to a heroes reception, and all they do is kick a ball about, usually badly.

Console yourself with the thought that half of them will spunk it all away on gambling, dodgy investments and divorce settlements.

the money is paid because they have reached the pinnacle vs millions and millions of other kids .

odds of becoming a regular  player ? it's about the same chance of winning the lottery (which doesn't even require skill or training)  .  It's not  a normal regular job .

if we all possessed the skills to play at that level the wages would be around 10k a year max .

pilots.dentists, judges, scientists  etc  same scenario - not enough skill to go round .

when i complained to my dentist one time about his charges ,he simply said something along the lines of   'i'm a dentist ,i can charge what i like '

Research by Xpro—a charity for former players—claims that three out of every five Premier League players declare bankruptcy after retirement.

That suggests that their almost unique skillset on the football field, as described by Coachbuster, is only superseded by their lack of brainpower.

One of the best 30 for 30 documentaries "Broke" detailed the many US sportstars that went bankrupt despite earning many millions during their careers.  Where did it go ? Divorces, paternity, providing for extended family, hangers-on, gold-diggers, dodgy financial advisors, legal bills, peer pressure and of course a whole lot of spending while failing to recognise that (in the NFL especially) your earning career isn't that long

Jack-saw

It always puzzled  me how, out of the millions of kids who play football at school  a substantial  %  reach a certain standard ,you might say half decent level ,yet a very, very small % can go on to play at professional  level  - say less than 0.1%  ? .... then , there is this chasm where you get a super high level  of play  ,an even smaller %  say
