My young son put his postcard, to his Grandparents, in a hotel postbox in Lanzarote, during the Easter Holidays this year. (1st class stamp and neatly written)
They live in Northern France and rang at the start of his school Summer Holidays to thank him for the (just-arrived postcard).

Sadly this sort of inept EuroPost performance is not as bizarre as one might think in this, the "Information Age". Umpteen years of personally trying to send/receive items to/from Europe have shown me it's far from unusual. (My dealings with North America/Canada have by contrast been a joy).
Allah alone knows how International Mail Order businesses manage to stay afloat when this type of dismal service is so prevalent.

To be honest, although a lot of people moan about it I don't think people in the UK realise how (relatively) good our postal system is.
When I lived in Australia, it took 4-7 days for domestic post to reach it's destination. That was 15 years ago so not sure if it has changed.
In the UK I still generally expect first class post to arrive next day and no more than 2 days.
