Written and posted on 31st August 2017.

Date stamped "Verona CMP Poste 07.09.17"  (a mere 7 days after placing in the postbox)

Arrived here in this corner of the Sceptred Isle today, 19th September 2017.

19 days minimum from postbox to letterbox.

Congrats to the EU on such an efficient joined-up, cross-border mail service after well over 40 years of practice.

The tourist could surely have walked/cycled/swum/swam it here faster. I've had routine parcels of books arrive from the USA in 4 days.

They are upset about Brexit. Going to re route everything via Syria using ISIS delivery service! Better than the UK DPD company. DPD stands for Does Pretend Deliveries!

Brexit police detained it for a couple of weeks while they completed the paperwork on it. You can keep it for 19 months, alum, then it has to go back where it came from.

My young son put his postcard, to his Grandparents, in a hotel postbox in Lanzarote, during the Easter Holidays this year. (1st class stamp and neatly written)

They live in Northern France and rang at the start of his school Summer Holidays to thank him for the (just-arrived postcard).

A bit bizarre

A bit bizarre

Sadly this sort of inept EuroPost performance is not as bizarre as one might think in this, the "Information Age". Umpteen years of personally trying to send/receive items to/from Europe have shown me it's far from unusual.  (My dealings with North America/Canada have by contrast been a joy).

Allah alone knows how International Mail Order businesses manage to stay afloat when this type of dismal service is so prevalent.

Alun,I see you are rightly preparing for the imminent Islamic Republic of Britain by referring to the Almighty as Allah. Good tactics

To be fair, my wife's dad (in Turin) posted a letter to my wife on Friday that arrived today.

To be honest, although a lot of people moan about it I don't think people in the UK realise how (relatively) good our postal system is.

When I lived in Australia, it took 4-7 days for domestic post to reach it's destination. That was 15 years ago so not sure if it has changed.

In the UK I still generally expect first class post to arrive next day and no more than 2 days.
