The Football Association should conduct "a comprehensive and independent review" into Eniola Aluko's claims against England boss Mark Sampson, says anti-racism campaign group Kick It Out.

The footballer, 30, has accused Sampson of "bullying and discrimination".

Sampson, 34, has been cleared of wrongdoing by two investigations and vehemently denies Aluko's claims.

But details given by Aluko in a BBC interview on Monday "throw new light on the allegations", Kick It Out said.

The Chelsea Ladies player alleges Sampson made a "racist comment" about her family in Nigeria being infected with the Ebola virus. Sampson vehemently denies saying this.

The FA said the allegation arose in informal correspondence and was not included in Aluko's subsequent complaint, or it would have been investigated.

A three-month independent investigation by barrister Katharine Newton did not uphold any of the complaints and cleared Sampson and the FA of any wrongdoing.

Aluko, however, has claimed the investigation and a previous FA inquiry were "flawed".

The FA denies this and says Aluko, who has played 102 times for England, declined to respond to the Newton investigation.

She has not been picked by Sampson since making allegations against him as part of an FA cultural review into England management.

The FA has insisted the timing was purely coincidental as the review was confidential and anonymous.

But Aluko claims she suffered "victimisation as a result of me reporting discrimination".

"The situation regarding this is now one of utter confusion with claims and counter-claims," Kick it Out said, pointing out Aluko's comments were contrary to what the FA was saying.

"Kick It Out urges the FA to undertake a comprehensive and independent review of the processes involved in the original complaint made by Aluko up to the final point of the independent investigation by Katharine Newton QC.

"This is so they can take on board any lessons learned, to remedy any deficiencies identified and to ensure it has an operational culture that treats any individual, whatever their background, equally, fairly and with dignity and respect.

"The FA must ensure a situation like this will never happen again in order to build trust, confidence and credibility."

I think Ms Aluko needs to be very very careful.

She is a trained lawyer, so presumably knows what is and isn't libellous. However, to go public with accusations about Mark Sampson, that have already been addressed by an FA and then an independent enquiry, seems stupid.

Furthermore, she refused to take part in said enquiries and did not bring these accusations to the attention of these enquiries. She admits her reaction was to laugh at the 'Ebola' retort that Sampson purportedly made (he denies it) - which was surely the reaction it was intended to provoke!

It is not a fact that because something happens subsequently it happened consequently, so she appears to be skating on thin ice, linking her dropping from the England team to a supposed racist slur.
Report Injera August 22, 2017 4:35 PM BST
Often the case lately that when a player is dropped or a cyclist not selcted for the Olympic team then accusations fly.

I like listening to Aluko in the media but she's done herself no favours here. People are so quick to use the bullying and racist words. Why be so sensitive??

If she did indeed get £80k 'hush money' then that is a disgrace.

The FA said it was unable to investigate the allegations in the letter because Aluko had not made a formal complaint as she could not corroborate them.

It also pointed to her refusal to participate in the subsequent independent investigation by barrister Katharine Newton.

Sampson is a bit of a tool, and I quite believe that he made some ignorant remarks. However, I don't see what Aluko is trying to achieve. 80 grand is a lot of money to be paid, just because someone made a stupid joke. She should be thankful that she got that much. She has received a fair amount of money for kicking a ball about for over a decade, and now she wants more. If she is a qualified lawyer then her earning potential should be better than most. She should concentrate on making a career out of that. Although her judgement in this matter suggests that she might not be very well equipped for a career in Law. Incidentally, how long does she believe that an international football career should be. After 11 years, I would have thought that her playing days would be coming to an end anyway. Despite her own obvious sense of entitlement.
Report mad mad moon August 22, 2017 9:33 PM BST
I heard her interview this morning on Radio 5, and it seemed very half-hearted, as though she herself wasn't convinced he had done anything wrong.
The fact that there has already been a 3 month enquiry, seems to suggest that she has been "persuaded" to keep it going
by the "kick it out" hierarchy, and the Beeb are happy to go along with it.
Report annie. August 23, 2017 8:08 PM BST
If he did make the remark it surely isn't racist anyway.

He was talking about an appalling disease that was, to my recollection, rife at the time in Nigeria and white people were getting it as well.  If a white woman had relations in nigeria he would have said it anyway.  It was probably a stupid joke and the fact that she confirmed that she laughed at the time, and it was about three years ago, confirms it.  Even if he was serious then maybe he was concerned for her health and the health of the team as it is highly contagious.

Report donny osmond September 20, 2017 3:56 PM BST
May 2016: England forward Eniola Aluko is asked to participate in a cultural review of all England teams by the FA's technical director Dan Ashworth.

December 2016: An independent investigation, led by barrister Katharine Newton, follows the FA's internal inquiry. Aluko - a qualified lawyer - claims that during a meeting in 2015, Sampson made a "highly inappropriate remark" with "derogatory, racial and prejudicial connotations" to an unnamed player, asking how many times she had been arrested because she was of mixed race.

March 2017: The independent review clears Sampson and his staff of wrongdoing but Aluko is paid £80,000 in a confidentiality agreement, which the FA insists was to avoid disruption to England's Euro 2017 campaign.

7 August 2017: Leaked details of the allegation made by Aluko emerge in a newspaper.

8 August 2017: Aluko confirms a complaint was made and she had reached a settlement with the FA earlier in the year. She adds she has "not quit the England team", despite not having played for over a year.

16 August 2017: Further details of the context of Aluko's allegations are revealed, including the accusations that racist remarks were made.

17 August 2017: The FA publishes a summary of the independent report's findings - in the form of a letter to Chelsea player Aluko - written by barrister Newton. It stresses again that the investigation "did not uphold any of Aluko's complaints and found no wrong-doing on behalf of the FA or others."

18 August 2017: Sampson said he welcomed the investigation and would be looking to improve his communication style.

21 August 2017: Aluko speaks to the BBC about the allegations for the first time. She accuses Sampson of making a racist comment to her ahead of an England game. After telling Sampson she had relatives coming from Nigeria to watch the game, Aluko claims Sampson replied: "Well make sure they don't come over with Ebola."

22 August 2017: The FA maintains its support of Sampson while the Professional Footballers' Association backs calls for a new investigation into how Aluko's complaints were handled.

5 September 2017: Sampson speaks publicly for the first time about the allegations and says his conscience is clear.

11 September 2017: Senior FA executives are told they will face a parliamentary inquiry over the investigations into Sampson's alleged "bullying and harassment" of Aluko.

12 September 2017: Sampson appears to contradict evidence he gave to the inquiry when he says he cannot recall ever having a conversation about Ebola with Aluko. England captain Steph Houghton says the manager retains her support.

14 September 2017: The FA says it could re-open its investigation into racism claims against Sampson after further evidence is submitted.

18 September 2017: England striker Jodie Taylor says the squad are now closer together following the allegations against Sampson.

19 September 2017: England begin their World Cup qualifying campaign by beating Russia 6-0. The players publicly celebrate with Sampson on the touchline.

Mark Sampson has been sacked as England women's manager following evidence of "inappropriate and unacceptable" behaviour in a previous role.

The Football Association says it has only just been made aware of details of the allegations made against Sampson when he was Bristol Academy boss.

A 2015 FA safeguarding assessment found Sampson did not pose a risk.

Sampson was also cleared this year of wrongdoing following discrimination allegations made by England players.

The 34-year-old Welshman became England head coach in December 2013 after leaving his role as manager of top-flight side Bristol Academy, now renamed Bristol City Women.

The FA said safeguarding allegations were made a year later, but "the full report of that investigation was only brought to the attention of the current FA leadership last week".

The statement added: "It is our judgement that it revealed clear evidence of inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour by a coach. It is on this basis that we have acted quickly to agree a termination

The sign at Tranmere Rovers' ground was obscured by the FA for the Lionesses' World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, hours after Lucy Bronze shared it online.

Her post received criticism and praise.

Tranmere Rovers Supporters' Club said it did not know why it was covered, adding it was "not remotely racist" and referred to their team's shirts.

[b]I am glad he has gone! There is still so much more to come out here! This is set to run and run. He is not the only villain here. He might be the pantomime villain but there are others who need to find an honest occupation.[/

I looked upon all this when I heard the comment the first time it came out thinking I wonder if a male would have got as teary over it/

For me its an issue about how women cant take male to male type banter.

If a woman were in the position of the males who took grief in the workplace from fellow males where I worked in the past she might actually have died of shock.

I think what would be best if the women had an independent set up for sports. Have their own clubs, governing bodies and coaches. All female.

At my club cricket level, it's hard for girls to be playing in what is a 95% mens' club. They need their own environment without the boys' chatter.

"briefly" has gone from your post

Aluko also alleges that one member of staff repeatedly spoke to her in a mock Caribbean accent – another allegation that was put to the authorities in the same letter

that is so much different from your post..

You would have to be a very spiteful and dangerous individual to cost someone their job over that.

donny - I apologise. My last post was a quote from the Standard. In The Mail it didn't mention 'briefly' or 'repeated'. I thought I'd read somewhere it was a one off but I may well be wrong.

i cant understand how even after yesterday some folk are still wanting to have a go at the lass

had that been harry kane abused , dropped, offered a payoff and then blackmailed to produce
a document to cover his abusers blame before getting the payoff  i dont think folk would be blaming him.

I can remember an incident at work when I had just left school many years ago in my first job.
The boss was a complete terror and he was disliked by many of the workers .

One day one of the men quite an elderly man ,had the boss by the neck and was holding a hammer threatening him .
The other men quickly ran over and broke them apart and the boss , shaken and as white as a ghost walked away.

The next day everyone went back to work, no one lost their job and nothing more was said.
bespute the fact that the foreman was a complete ******* and didn't change I thought that was admirable .
Makes a big impression when you are 16  : )

Back again as headline news on BBC Sport. They're lapping it up.
Despite claiming that she wants to draw a line underneath the episode, has given yet another interview
to the Beeb , this time criticising all the other England players for celebrating with the manager, and that
"togetherness" was just a hashtag.

Or it could be that her team mates resent her using the race card to get a nice payday,
while they have lost the best manager England have ever had, just before a World Cup.
