I know they all do it but Sleezyjet (apparently) are the worst for overbooking by up to 12 passengers per flight but typically 5 or so. Going on hols tomorrow with that airline....
Gulp Crazy Anyone ever been bumped off through an airline overbooking?? Seems criminal to me to do that.

How is it even possible to overbook in this day and age ?
Report Shrewd_dude July 26, 2017 9:03 PM BST
It's intentional because they know they have certain flights that usually have regular no shows so they sell additional seats.
Report paulypaul July 26, 2017 9:16 PM BST
Yes, intentional. Says on their website! It's not just them though...
Left a 15 year old off a flight no long ago

I should have guessed really, but should be a banned practice imo, passengers should be going to airports knowing they might get kicked off of a plane for no reason of fault of their own. The UA incident was the end result of when it really goes wrong. How do they choose which passenger to remove?

should not*

I thought they offered incentives for peep to give up their seats.
Report Shrewd_dude July 26, 2017 10:14 PM BST
It's common practice but the problem occurs when they don't realise that the plane is over booked until it's boarded and that seems to be the situations that we hear about people getting chucked off the planes. Presumably it's made harder for them by them making everybody check in online and they don't see anyone until they show their boarding passes to get on the plane.

It's ridiculous though. Who wouldn't be kicking off if they were on a plane and had commitments and were told to leave the plane not knowing when they could next fly and hadn't discussed compensation.

I first read that as "Easy Jet - bumming passengers off flights".

Ok sir, a return to Malaga is £45.  Would you like to be búggered for an extra £9.50?

Theyd just charge more for tickets.

Its common practice all airlines do it. They ask for volunteers, just put you on a later plane and give you some cash.

They're all at it with this and other scams. I notice jet2 are charging people to keep their 'carry on' bag with them, otherwise it's put in the hold with their suitcase.

If the seat has been paid for it shouldn't matter if it's empty or not, and the airline should be grateful for the fuel saving. Overbooking should be proscribed.
Report scandanavian_haven July 27, 2017 11:20 AM BST
they could charge more for tickets but it wouldn't work, competition would see to it.

Pre 11th of September there where stalls at the airport where you could buy up late cancellations at the fraction of the price.
