Ethernet cable connection

Looking for a bit of advice here, I have a router box downstairs and was looking to do a few wired connections upstairs from one cable coming from the router downstairs. I bought a good length of cable with the connections on each end, one end plugged into the router downstairs and the other end into my talk talk box upstairs which works fine. Is there some sort of connection which I can plug this end into upstairs like a splitter so I can put one into the talk talk box and another lead from the splitter too another room? Not sure what I'm looking for, an ethernet splitter, a network switch type thing that gives about 5 outputs, just looking for something that the end of this ethernet connection can fit into which allows me to take a few connections of this to supply other rooms upstairs of the one wire thats coming from downstairs, if that makes sense.

Not sure why you would bother, unless you are a hard core gamer and need those extra few milliseconds. Wifi is fine for most people.

You need a desktop switch. Depending on whether your network is 100MBPS or Gigabit, you need one of the following two products.

If you are unsure, you can order the Gigabit switch.
It is fully backwards compatible with slower speeds.
It's also the best buy for only a couple of quid more.

What I would do first of all, is take the Ethernet cable and unattach it at the talk talk modem/router and then stamp on the box and then get on the phone and join a serious ISP, one with a decent service and who isn't continually in the news for security flaws.
While I was at it I'd check the cable to make sure it was cat7, if not I'd replace it for when the proper modem arrives.

I agree with pxb. This is what I use, it uses your mains circuit for your network, you have the choice of using wifi or you can use ethernet cables plugged into it. It's a great way of extending your network, I get the same speeds whether ethernet or wifi anywhere in the house.

As @pxb says, is the game worth the candle?

If you are gaming or betting in-running, yes. If this is just to get wifi upstairs to read email, there are probably easier and cheaper ways to do it that do not involve running cables all round the house.

Those interweb sharing plugs only work on the same main. e.g. If your downstairs and upstairs are on different circuits and have separate fuses, then you can't share the interweb from upstairs to downstairs with those plugs.
Yo can run a cat 7 ethernet cable to an ethernet splitter, which requires power. Then you have 5 or more ethernet ports at your 2nd location.

Thanks for the info lads, its not for gaming. You need these wired connections normally for your smart tvs and computers, nothing worse than not getting a decent enough connection on wifi, when I can just use something which works a little better. Think I will plump for the gigabit switch mentioned above, looks to be the correct thing Im looking for.
