You must drink only German beer. Krombacher, Perlenbacher are "sehr gut." Why German? Because they allow only four wholesome ingredients no poisonous e numbers. It is an ancient edict that protects their people from crunching hangovers. Or, as the Brexit zealots would say, "pointless Euro-nonsense preventing freedom of choice." Let the people drink wife-beater from lead cans if they want to. This is the pure folly of Brexit and why it must be reversed. The consequence of Germany's strict beer laws over centuries is that Germans have an average IQ of 107.

You really make yourself look a bit of a twit with all your anti-Brexit raving, ub Laugh

I have been a huge fan of Reinheitsgebot for over 30 years and rarely touch the crap we brew in the UK.

trilby - Beer standards really go to the heart of the Brexit debate. Regulation may have raised the average IQ of people under its aegis.

Deltâ judging from his last comment must have missed my first post here.

Perhaps his brain has been addled by too much booze.

A friend complained to me that after a session of drinking he'd go straight to sleep then wake up in the middle of the night unable to drop off again.

I told him that's common amongst drinkers.

''Oh'' he said ''I thought it's when you haven't drunk enough.''

personally think you need the reassurance of rescue breakdown after a night on the sauce. Changing a tyre can be extremely disorientating.

Decided im going to attempt to have a decent spell off the booze as its causing problems now for certain aspects of my life?
Anyone know if its safe for a heavy drinker to just stop? Also how long would you suggest i stay dry for? Or more likely
how long will i be able to stay dry for

Good luck prepared - if you really want to stop you will. You might need help though. My brother went to AA and has been sober for over 4 years. Now a very happy man. Believe they have online meetings. http://www.aaonline.net/

You have to stop.

You will feel okay in 4 weeks.
By:

When: 28 Jul 17 00:57
You reckon it will take as long as 4 weeks pal?
By:
The Leopard
When: 28 Jul 17 00:57
Maybe better to cut down gradually.....what is your average intake?

10 to 14 pints a night currently, hoping cold turkey works as ive never been the type of bloke to only have 2 or 3 pints etc. U drink?

Heavy drinker here,if youve been drinking 14 pints nightly for a long time cold turkey isnt the best idea. One or two drinks before bed should ease the symptoms of witdrawal.  Good luck though.

Cheers lads, much appreciated. How much you drink jimmy?

Have a glass of water near you and take a drink of that every other drink,

It will slow down the intake of alcohol

Remember to refill the glass.

Going to try cold turkey to start with but if i get any serious side effects i will have a few a night etc.
Good idea leopard, currently replaced beer with tea so i'll be up all night at this rate

Would feel uncomfortable if i didnt have 4 five percent cans in the the house after a four or five day bender anyway.
Helps you sleep and the next few day will be tolerable while cutting down.

Prepared in all seriousness, as Jimmy says you really shouldn't be cutting it out altogether, it should be gradual because at 14 pints a night you're body system would go into shock, think that's what happened to Amy Winehouse. Good luck.

I'm just not the sort of person who can only have a few though annoyingly. 4 would turn to 8 to 12 etc and i'd be back to square one.
Will use this thread to give daily updates of any symptons/side effects or if i fall off the wagon. The thing is i can't imagine going out with friends or to a wedding etc and not drinking? No idea how im going to get through this. Always love/need a pint or 8 to be able to watch

Also how the f eck could i go on a first date with a bird and only drink coke etc. The more i think about it it seems impossible

No advice on that unfortunately prepared, would never go on a first date without a few drinks!

Exactly pal, its a must to be fair. Thing is im a good laugh up to about 8 or 9 pints but after that i can become a total knob.
Sober me is constantly having to apologise for things drunk me's said or done and half the time i have no idea what
im apologising for. Its getting ridiculous now

You need to set up some mechanism so that you don't drink beyond your 8 or 9.  You'd have to work out how to do that.

Most importantly, I'd suggest having 2 nights off the beer every week.  You can pick the days.
