There will be 5 golfers with an H to start their surname still in over the weekend;
So, if you said 5 you score 4 points, 4 or 6 - 2 points, 3 or 7 - 1 point.

145 was the number that survived the cut - Quite low, imo, given the conditions and the small number of players actually under par at this point.

No-one thought that there would be a 62 - the 1st time ever in any major - in round 3.
It was a bit of an outsider; 440 odd majors, 4 rounds in each (at least in living memory), So no points for anyone in Section E.

The Top 20 in the betting yielded 12 in the top 20 (well, 28 including ties) so 12 is worth 4 points, 11 or 13 - 2 points, 10 or 14 - 1 point.

In what is a bit of a boring (imo, of course) open, boring because of the lack of any change in the leaderboard from the off and because of Sky and (again imo) the course being too easy, the competition is very close.

The comp is more interesting than the event in fact Happy and here is the complete leaderboard, with still 6 sections to finish. I suspect the outright score and margin will be vital. So will keep us on tenterhooks right to the finish. Except for a few special people including me!

I made an error - In section C - how many H's will make the cut.
James Hahn was not in the list of the original 17 H's, he was a last minute reserve who replaced Brandt Snedeker. So he didn't exist for the purposes of the comp.

Therefore, there were actually 4 H's not 5, which changes the points situation slightly - all will be revealed at the end of the tournament.
Along with the results of the other sections, I won't bombard you with updates because there isn't long to wait until the end.

OK. The final analysis:
Section A: Poulter scored 67
Section B: 3 way tie for 1st round lead; Spieth, Kuchar, Koepka.
Section C: A CHANGE There were 4 of the 17 listed golfers with a surnames beginning with an H (not 5) - as detailed in my earlier post.
Section D: The cut mark was 145
Section E: Best 3rd round score 62
Section F: 12 of the top 20 favs in the top 20 after round 3.

Now the final 6 sections:
Section G: Top Australian. Marc Leishman (3 points) with Adam Scott in 2nd (1 point)
Section H: Top British/Irish. Rory McIroy (4 points) one shot clear of Matthey Southgate (2 points) one further shot clear of Paul Casey (1 point)
Section I: Top European. Again with a shot between each; Cabrera-Bello (4 points), Noren (2 points), Stenson (1 point)
Section J: Top American. Jordan Spieth (5 points), Matt Kuchar (3 Points), Brooks Koepka (2 points), Chan Kim (1 point)
Section K: The Winning Margin - Speith won, by
Section L: The Winning score - 268 - so 5 points if you said that. 3 points if you were 1 out, 2 points if 2 shots wrong and 1 point for 271 or 265

Tiebreaks: 1, A hole in one? NO
2, A J winning the Open? YES
3, Any South Koreans in the top 10 NO

There were NO ties in ANY section - 1st time ever, I think. There weren't many changes after day 1. The favourites did well overall. There were more low scores on days 3 & 4 than at any major I can remember, certainly the Open. So not the most scintillating Open imo. Just think how much fun the exciting ones are!!!

However, the competition has been fun and interesting - The next one will almost certainly be the US Open Tennis - It would be nice to see you all there!
I might even get a bit of BF sponsorship - who knows?

I dislike golf but wish you all the best Studyform I do occasionally enter competitions
