I think GoT is excellent tv and all the hype surrounding it makes it better as I enjoy talking about it with people. I think the acting and story is great but the production values are superb and the two Benioff and Weiss are the Masters of this show.

Any great story can be butchered. These guys bring it to life and maybe the books are better and give you better insight but I have not and will not read the books. TV is it's own medium. I'll take what they have given.

I have not binge watched the show yet. I watch episode by episode weekly and that creates a longing to see what happens next.

My favorite series have been Deadwood and The Wire. All good TV tends to share the same things, great story, great actors and great production. Got has all 3 as well. I think great screen writing for TV is also over looked. Transfering a story to tv can be difficult.

gave up watching after 8 episodes in season 1.

I'm a big fan of the Conan books, i read them all when i was twenty.
The conan films were all utter Crappola - never got the cunning of
conan right? His skills or his manipulations.
Sounds like this is turning out like the conans?

Like the comics? the superhero films needed the special effects to catch up
to make them believable. The seventies Hulk is different from the last hulk film.

Hercules came closer to Conan than the films, Kevin Sorbo had the Gallows humour he had.

Without Robert E.Howard none of this stuff would exist, including Tolkiens muppet show.

I generally can't be bothered with box set series stuff, it needs to be compact and done and dusted withing 90mins for me or I start losing interest.
The only series I've watched was Black Flag, the pre runner to Treasure Island.
I was interested in that because we all know the plot and it was vaguely interesting to see how they got to the main story and character development, but it was so contrived, the number of twists in it left you dizzy.
They do it to pimp out the story and it gets ridiculous.
I think I only stuck with it because of the Caribbean shots and the rebellious tendencies and debauchery.

Though the main character just had to be a puff nowadays and the final plot could be seen coming a mile off....bugger the treasure it was all about gay love in the end.
Don't recall that in Treasure Island.

I would love a recommendation on the lines of Narcos, Fargo, Prison Break, BB, Dexter, Better call saul etc. And NOT something like GOT, heroes or other hocus pocus stuff. Thanks

The original 24 season 1-5 were simply brilliant, never thought anything would come close till Breaking Bad, Season 1 is a slow builder...Season 2 etc the twists and turns so influential on the shows that followed.
Report detraveller • July 15, 2017 1:24 PM BST
Will start with The Shield then(have seen every other you guys have mentioned). Thanks
Report Shrewd_dude • July 15, 2017 1:41 PM BST
Not watched ever series but I though Person of Interest and Burn Notice were very good from what I have watched as well.

My favourites are Sopranos, the Shield, 24, the wire, Breaking Bad and Sharpe. Dexter and Sons of Anarchy were up there at one time but Dexter got stupid towards the end and SOA got boring so never even finished last series. Person of Interest and Burn Notice just below them.

The first season of Underbelly was great as well. Next few season were decent but not as good. I was hooked on Prison Break in 1st season and thought it was brilliant but gave up on the second season after about 5 episodes as it was just boring drawn out carp.

I enjoy it, but it's lost a lot since the series was forced to part company with the books. There is too much telling, and not enough showing now, too many plot-holes and inconsistencies ( e.g how did Sansa and Theon survive the huge drop from the castle ramparts without water or a conveniently parked haywain to land in? Where did the vicious blood hounds disappear to when they were rescued by Brienne and Pod? Where did Euron find enough trees to cut down to build the "biggest fleet that Westeros has ever seen", on a "bunch of barren, god-forsaken, rocks covered in nothing but birdsh!t"? Why does Euron go mincing around, camping it u with a stupid grin on his face, talking nothing but shyte?) The Euron character is a joke. A rare piece of mis-casting on an otherwise well-executed show. the last 2 seies have been disappointingly hurried, and the next 2 look as though they are becoming too dumbed-down and soap-like. that said, it's still a lot better than anything on terrestrial Telly.

Worse than I thought. Episode 2 was the weakest Episode of all the 7 series, so far. The 1st scene was more "Marvel comics" than "War of the Roses". Predictably enough the writing and dialogue are inferior to the original source material, but the acting seesm to be suffering too. The same actors that made such a good job of the earlier series seem to be uncomfortable with the facile, contrived and clunky material they have to work with now. It's still enjoyable, but the spoon-feeding and hurried plot resolution are making it much less satifying to watch.

Because it is a tv series it is moving along too quickly for me but that cannot be helped I guess.

Another criticsm is that one tough guys and gals suddenly become jabbering sheep ( not talking about Teon here ). How can an Iron born Fleet be destroyed like they were. One min ute the Lannister's are threatened from all sides and then they reign victorious over all comers ( ok wait for episdoe 4 ).

What I mean is that it is moving along like a soap opera and yes we have to accept the timelines. The dialogue was pretty good this week and some characters made a glorious retrun to form. Some very good writing and kwality one liners! I did like the way that Cersei knows what she has to do. I am afraid Jamie is a bit of a dummy and can understand why his dad was so disappointed in him but he is showing good signs with ageing and to be fair if you had a sister as hot a Lena Headley you probably wouldWhoopsWink!

Huge swing in quality between episode 2 and 3, sometimes it feels like its getting tired, cliched and being phoned in but then this week was back up there on that other level.

It did move a bit fast but to be fair theres only 10 episodes left now and their must be at least 20 major characters still to kill off. Offing Sunspear and Highgarden is still smallfry in the grand scheme.

One good thing about the pace though is that nothing is static now, the next episode could end with anyone dead or anyone on the throne. And again, they only have what, 9 episodes left and so so many characters to whittle down, the body count will need to start increasing if anything.

Think one of Arya/Littlefingers days are numbered

This is what I meant. One minute Littlefinger is a cunning coniving little sheite and Varys is also one step or more ahead of evrybody and now they are just prawns in the game. Arya to do him but I would prefer if it was Sansa. That would make her really hot too, not just good looking but real badass.

God help me if I am not finding Arya attractive too...women with swords mmmm.

It was a great episode and the battle scenes were pretty good. Thing is good as they were I really liked the tight intricacies between the characters and their development and unravelling. CGI is ok but doesn't really float my boat. It is like the difference between watching porn and doing porn! Ok I suppose but leaves you wanting more.

What will be interesting is the end game. WIll there be a difference between Martin and the producers? Will good triumph? Will there be a heavy price to pay? I am sure there will be issues and tissues.

Good return for GoT and plenty more to come in 5,6 and 7. can't wait! ( how true that is, I have listened to some spoilers tut tut! must try harder! ).

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in “Game of Thrones.” Credit Macall B. Polay/HBO
On this week’s episode of “Game of Thrones,” for the first time, we were faced with a battle in which it was possible to root for both sides. When Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) started to charge a distracted Daenerys Targaryen, we, too, were as torn as Tyrion. Don’t we want the Kingslayer to get a chance to save the day? Don’t we want Dany to turn her fortunes around and get a win?

The episode ended on a cliffhanger as Jaime was pushed clear of a burst of dragonfire into the dark, murky Blackwater Rush. Mr. Coster-Waldau, who was itching for a chance to shoot a big action sequence, spoke in a telephone interview on Monday about what it was like behind the scenes, and what questions Jaime will face if he survives. Following are edited excerpts from that conversation.

What’s it like doing a battle scene in which you’re charging at an imagined dragon — and then seeing the final result?

I just saw it this morning! I was pretty blown away by the realism of that insane beast. It’s so weird, because the technology’s so advanced and what they can do is so unbelievable, so when you watch it, you almost forget for a second that that’s not what we saw

It took a long, long time to shoot. We shot for more than three weeks in Spain, outside of this town called Cáceres, and as you might imagine, it’s very complicated when you have all these elements. You have fire, which is difficult to work with. You have horses, which don’t necessarily enjoy fire. And because the dragon was sweeping over the whole set, they have these amazing wires for this camera, which is just zooming by us. I can’t even imagine how they pulled it off.

I loved it, because even though it’s not as big when we shoot it, it’s still big. You have the whole wagon train. You have all the explosions going off. You’re on horseback. It is quite exhilarating, to be honest. When you see the Dothraki riders, the skill level is insane! Because they do it. It’s in-camera. It’s not C.G.I. They jump up on those horses. They shoot a bow and arrow while standing up on horseback, galloping, on a field that is not even. It’s rough terrain, by the way. And they didn’t fall off. They didn’t have any injuries. The stunt department broke the record for the most men on fire, and it’s scary to see one man on fire, but 20 at the same time? And they just get up, like it’s another day at the office.

To be galloping on horseback, with extras running in front of you, weapons flying over you, on an animal that could slip and fall …

There’s this weird thing that happens when the word “action!” gets yelled out — you have to fool yourself. For that minute, I have to fool myself into thinking that this is really happening. That it’s real. Jaime Lannister would never worry for a second about falling off a horse, so you can’t think too much about it. I mean, I worry about it after, but I don’t worry about it during the take. Or I try not to, anyway.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in “Game of Thrones.” Credit Macall B. Polay/HBO
When Jaime sees Dany, he makes a desperate dash to attack her and perhaps end the war. When Tyrion sees this, he’s torn and thinks his brother’s an idiot for doing it …

Yeah. Jaime’s not a complete idiot. He knows that this is a long-shot. But he also knows that there is no way that they can beat this woman. They cannot beat these dragons. The only way would be to somehow kill her, and for a brief second, he sees that opening. It’s like a Hail Mary.

But this is Jaime. He sometimes acts before he thinks. And you have to, in war situations. It would be glorious. He would save his sister, even if he’s the only one who believes she needs saving. Because you also see the horror of these weapons of mass destruction, it’s so overwhelming. The truth is, Dany could do this without the Dothraki army. They’re just there to clean up the mess. So yes, you can have Qyburn’s scorpion machine, and if you had 100 scorpions, you might be able to do something. But unless they do that, it’s going to be difficult to beat. Or they’ve got to go get their own dragon eggs and build a big fire! [Laughs]

Looking for Something to Watch Tonight?
There are more than 1000 suggestions for wha

Jaime doesn’t see Tyrion in this moment, but at least he definitively knows, from his conversation with Olenna Tyrell, that his brother did not kill Joffrey.

I don’t think Jaime ever thought Tyrion did, but he didn’t know that he didn’t, if that makes sense. I don’t think he believed it. But they didn’t know who did it. And it raises a question of who can he trust?

Will it change anything? Will he ever get a chance to tell Cersei about it? Jaime’s always been on the fringe of this whole game of thrones, if you will. I think he’s getting to the place where he’s questioning, What’s the point of all this? Power for the sake of power? The times when he functions the best is when he has a purpose, when he’s on a battlefield. Like when he took back Riverrun, he did it in a smart way. Instead of just using blunt force, he can find the weakness in a person.

He’s such a great military man, but when it comes to Cersei, he’s just flailing because he doesn’t have that same level of cynicism, or that ability to lie, like Cersei, Littlefinger or Varys. They operate in a parallel universe. What is the endgame? When you see Cersei with the banker, it’s all about how she wants to control everything. It’s never going to be enough for her, no matter what. And it’s a tricky situation for Jaime. He’s more romantic about that whole relationship, and she’s not that romantic. So how will she react to all of this? It’ll be interesting.

We leave Jaime drowning in his armor.

It seems impossible to survive that. Luckily, he’s not wearing the Kingsguard armor, which is made of brass. But oh my God, don’t get me started on the water! We had a full day of going to the bottom, and that was not nice. I got a little sick, after. You have to go down, you have to equalize the pressure, and I’m not very good at that. It was just a tough, tough day.

Also, as you can imagine, because you can’t see anything when you go underwater, you depend on these divers to come to you when you signal, and you always want to have the feeling that you can escape if something happens. But because of the armor, I couldn’t. Once I let go, I couldn’t do anything. It was a great test of what level of claustrophobia I have, which turned out to be quite high. [Laughs] It’s funny, because it’s all in your mind. In my mind, I know safety is paramount and people are ready, but when you can’t see, and you can’t move, and you feel the pressure of the water? It was … absolutely disgusting, to be honest. But it looks amazing!

You do know it is not real?

Dirty Dozen, Dirty Half Dozen plus one, The A Team, The Magificent Seven, The Seven Samurai, Oceans Eleven minus four,

Or Seven go on a walk and get fceked!

Who will be the Captain Oates? We need Jon, Gendry, The Hound, Tormund shirley has to fcek Brienne, that leaves Berrick and Thoros, I think Jora makes the cut too.

Good episode to pre Armageddon, I also suggest that Artmageddon will be the ultimate not penultimate episode of the series!

Cracking lad!

Regger!

SPOILER ALERT!

I did vaguely wonder if the Spanish attacks were HBO retaliation for the leaking of Episode 7 in Spain.

Couldn't help looking. Wow - chilly stuff, mostly north of the wall.

I wonder what a blue-eyed dragon will spit - icicles?

Oh no, I've said too much ...

SPOILER ALERT!

2 middling characters and a dragon (V). Remember the bloke who rescued crippled thingumee Stark and the aboriginal girl? And it's about time the Red Company was reduced in number. The Hound is bound to hang around until he kills his brother (The Mountain).

Dany is Jon Snow's aunt so they can't have it off. The dragon let him stroke it because he has Targaryen blood.

Knowledge is power.

Power is always abused.

What a fantastic episode to end the series with.

It's going to be a long wait for the last series. Cry
