Life has a 0% possibility of evolving by chance.Thats a scientific fact.So it doesn't matter how many planets we find with possible life on them.if you multiply by 0% you get =ZERO.LaughLaughLaughLaughLaugh

Not sure your scientific fact can be confirmed as a scientific fact.
Actually, I'm fairly sure it isn't scientific fact!
So once you discount the fact that it cannot (by dint of a probably infinite universe) be cited as a fact, the rest of the factual arithmetic sort of goes out of the wormhole.

If it's all illusion then anything you create or build is illusion?
Museums full of art worth billions all illusion.
all the books illusions. the forests and the animals.

Somehow it's all a computer projection, now that we all use computers?
nobody said this in 1920, when computers didn't exist?
It's because we watch screens now all day that we associate reality with
a flickering image. It's just another stupid theory. Not yet a LAW.

How many physic students are there? how many physics professors?
because they all have to justify their existence and come up with
a thesis to pass out of Universities. Or to get a job promotion?
In art schools like Goldsmiths you have to come up with some deep thought
BS to sell your wares. Blood sculptures. Paintings made with elephant dung.
a dead shark split down the middle with a fly colony trapped within.
It's the same thing. I am an individual with a mad idea. I'm interesting.
I wear a pie hat and have a gold tooth. It's all absurd. reality has left
the building. Occasionally they chance upon something that works.. a mold dish
that has been left out. Then they investigate it at length to find out why
it works. But all they are doing is discovering. They are rarely understanding
the mechanism. If they did making new antibiotics would be an everyday activity.

2 things about the Drake equation.
1. It only applies to our galaxy and not the whole universe
and
2. It makes suppositions about the form life takes - ie that what's needed is Earthlike planets and conditions.

Anyone who's ever seen star trek knows life could be made of energy and come from a giant space whale!

Zorro, at the risk of getting into a theological spat
(actually, I won't because I'm turning this off and going to bed now)

The issue is simple:
Space is very big. We don't get it, because we aren't capable of getting it and we don't have enough information to go on, plus we are completely incapable of understanding big spaces or long periods of time, let alone infinity.

So Religion makes for a handy, popular, catch-all and safe(ish) explanation.
There's no proof of any of it any more than there is proof that there isn't of it.
I know what is more likely though.

I_agree_with_nick - I don't agree with you Happy
It is almost impossible, imo that we are alone. We all just so far apart we'll never meet. Then there's the timing aspect.
Just suppose someone found this planet at any time in the last 4 billion years or so. They had, for most of it, found no life, for loads of it rudimentary life and for about 5,000 years (the equivalent of a few seconds if it was all equal to a 24 hour clock) some form of intelligence - and that's assuming they didn't see this forum.

Even then 70% of the Earth is Sea, about 50% -(guess) is uninhabitable, so they'd need to be lucky enough to find the right bits.
Then there's the size/time thing.
They'd need to exist in our time frame, and they'd need to be of an equivalent size. They could be 1 inch creatures in 3 foot ships, they might breathe methane.

Plenty of life, just no chance of seeing it.
Report Foinavon • July 9, 2017 10:43 PM BST
If it's possible here, it's possible elsewhere so I do not think we are alone as a life form.
Communication is the problem due to the vast distances and the time it takes for information to travel from one place to another at the speed of light. (100,000 years just to cross our galaxy). Should we by chance hear a message from ET it's likely they had gone extinct before we evolved, (or before Adam and Eve if you prefer).
Report i_agree_with_nick • July 9, 2017 10:45 PM BST
Totally agree about the timing and scale aspects.

What I can't get past is the massive leap from chemistry to biology. The one place where we know that conditions are ideal for the support of life is here on Earth.

So why in 5 billion years has life only occurred once? (Virtually the entire scientific community agree that we are all decscended from the first single-celled organism.)

There was an idea a few years ago that if we sprinkled some Silver Iodide into Venus's atmosphere, then it might cause rain to form and fall and cool the planet down and that in a couple of hundred years make it more visitable and manageable.

My guess is that this was just a way for some scientists to get funding (wages) for some nonsense work, which unfortunately is what much astronomy is. Still it gives Journalists who are easily blinded and confused by science easy work.

GRAVITY. you made it King of the universe.

but if you look at the atom, delve down into the atom.
it's all about the electro magnetic fields.
Gravity is weak. the electro magnetic force is vastly stronger.

They tell you that 96 percent of the universe is missing (dark matter and dark energy)
but if they take out gravity and put in the electro magnetic force it is all there.
They made Gravity king, when it's the deuce.

"Is the electromagnetic force really strong?"

It is very strong and this is surprising too because it can work over an infinite range. To give you an idea, the electromagnetic force is approximately 1036 times stronger than the earth's gravitational field! That is (to put it in perspective) 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times stronger than gravity on Earth! If this was not the case, all material would collapse into a black hole! Forces compete, on Earth the electromagnetic force wins. In a black hole, gravity is a very strong contender.

"What does the electromagnetic force repel and attract?"
--------------------
it's a tug o war being described... gravity and electromagnetism. There is no missing matter or dark energy. just controlled chaos. abstraction.

Scientists know the universe is expanding at an increasing rate. They say “dark energy” is the force behind this expansion. They don’t know what “dark energy” is, but it may defy Einstein’s theory of gravity.
A NASA paper describing dark energy says one possibility “is that Einstein’s theory of gravity is not correct.”
“That would not only affect the expansion of the universe, but it would also affect the way that normal matter in galaxies and clusters of galaxies behaved,” the paper states. “This fact would provide a way to decide if the solution to the dark energy problem is a new gravity theory or not: we could observe how galaxies come together in clusters. But if it does turn out that a new theory of gravity is needed, what kind of theory would it be?”

QUESTION="one second before the big bang, why did the (everything contained=the future universe)in the small ball, not collapse into a blackhole"and why did the gravity of the universe (included in the small ball )not stop the big bang.
This proves to me that there had to be anti gravity inside the small ball but all the everything should have collapsed and formed a blackhole so it proves to me that the big bang did not happen ,and the universe was always there and always will be there ,unless of course someone or some god created it."

because the sentence doesn't make sense.

it would make more sense to say that life has a 0% chance of not evolving by chance.

because it is not possible for anything not to evolve, that is alive.

I had an epiphany about all this today. Probably one that most have had already.

Theres two big elements of chance necessary to get where we are today, the chance of life, and the chance of reproduction.

So life must be a relatively common phenomena for us to have landed the reproduction element too. Its just that most of the other life out there just crops up and dies without getting anywhere.
