I didn't ask Tony Blair if I could bring two lives into this world, why if I choose AND if I am brave enough can I not end my own life at the hands of a Doctor in a dignified way ?

why not just move to a high rise. It's inevitable that they'll kill you.
Report olddesperado June 22, 2017 7:29 PM BST
The builders getting you down dan ?
Report Slicer June 22, 2017 8:02 PM BST
Mr dan- should be available in the UK. If you have 10 grand you can have it done in Switzerland. If you can't afford that, join a Muslim march of Rage, wearing a yellow star badge, holding the flag of Israel and shout "Shalom, the 72 virgins have already lost they maidenhead and pork is god". It won't take long.

There's a massive hospital not far from me, way taller than a standard high rise.
I've often wondered why patients don't just open a window and jump.

Report bodil June 23, 2017 12:10 AM BST
In the good old days, when you were in hospital and past any semblance of a decent life, the doctors would give you a 'Brompton Cocktail' injection - morphine/heroin/LSD etc and you would leave in a blaze of glory.  That fker Harold Shipman put an end to all that - his biggest crime wasn't the 300-400 he personally knocked off - it was condemning millions of the wretched elderly to days/weeks/months of unnecessary suffering because he put the fear of the legal system into anyone thinking of hastening the inevitable for reasons of compassion.

Agree it should be a matter of choice, I could think of nothing worse than not being able to care of myself. My late wife converted to Catholicism so for her it would of been a sin, I do have to say though due to her faith she never said "Why me"
Report olddesperado June 23, 2017 11:25 PM BST
I,d be for it too but can understand why its difficult to allow tbh.

Imagine a nasty Nick persuading poor old Dot she shouldnt be so selfish to get his hands on her house.

It would have to be in terminal cases only and signed off by the local GP, the hospital specialist and a state approved outside specialist in whatever illness is afflicting the patient.
Report ufcdan June 23, 2017 11:28 PM BST
I know they always spout the old b0ll0x about the venerable being talked into it. And when it goes to court there's always someone in a wheelchair saying people want to bump off the disabled..........total cr@p
Report olddesperado June 23, 2017 11:33 PM BST
It would happen Dan ,   plenty of uncroupilous out there.

If its a genuine case 3 approvals from the local GP and 2 specialists shouldnt be a problem.

Oh well dead now or a year going to be the same result Sad
Report olddesperado June 23, 2017 11:56 PM BST
True but if i was offered that choice above i know which i.d pick now.

In 6 months time i might pick the opposite depending on circumstances.

But thats the thing , it should be a few months approval time with the above safeguards.

But i agree the option should be there.

My dad died from alzhimers ,

I watched him sitting in nappys in a tracksuit for the last 9 or so months of his life.

Its funny but the nappys i could live with but the tracksuit destroyed me as he was always a well dressed man ,  slacks and shirt outside of work and suit going out.

He was in a home and i accepted their reasons for tracksuits after a debate but to see him in one broke my heart.

My point is when he had it mild he probably would have wanted to do do it but as we still had him maybe 50% of the time we wouldnt have agreed as a family .

By the time we might have accepted it he was gone feral and wouldnt or couldnt agree to it.

Its a very complex issue.

Theres a lot to be said for a massive heart attack that takes it out of everyones hands. Sad
Report olddesperado June 24, 2017 12:13 AM BST
By having him 50% of the time i mean mentally.

i read on the BBC webshyte that they had a cure for dementia now?
Was they talkin shyte again? it was a cocktail of pills.
i posted about it months ago?
Report olddesperado June 24, 2017 10:24 PM BST
I keep up on the fight to find a cure and apparently a few breakthroughs have happened.

A few different drugs are showing a lot of promise and i think they have found the rogue gene that causes the plaque build up on the brain so that should make it easier to streamline drugs to fight it.

Theres a lot of trials to go through before things get licenced though so could be up to 10 years before these promising drugs come on the market.

Its madness because this is one of the rottenness diseases to inflict anyone and i doubt there is a relative out there who wouldnt agree to allow trials on their loved one,

Tbh there,s nothing to lose as the person is already gone,  its the same body alright but the person you love is gone to be replaced by a stranger.
Report bodil June 24, 2017 11:53 PM BST
All kinds of progress being made - a lot through trials of drugs that were supposed to cure other things. The pharmaceutical industry is really pretty crap. Certainly spends more on marketing than research. Keep on keeping on. I'm certain I'll live for ever. A really frightening thought.

Here we go again. Another case going to the High court. Noel Conway is a 67 year old man, tragically he is terminally ill with motor neurone disease. His biggest fear is to become entombed in his own body so now wants at the time of HIS choosing to be able to end his life. From what I can see he has lived a full and energetic life skiing, climbing and cycling. Why should he not be able to end if life given that there is no good possible outcome yet the state can decide to switch off Charlie Gaurd's life support system ? As usual disabled people are paraded out saying its a rocky slope to euthanasing disabled people.............what a load of b0ll0x ! On the news last night there was a woman (sorry can't remember her name, think she's in the House of Lords) making a statement against it. She spoke very eloquently about her belief so I have no doubt she would be able to convey to those involved "I don't want to die" so I see no risk in allowing those that do to end their days with dignity.
