It might be worth you looking into a low carb diet.  Within days of cutting my carb intake my blood pressure and blood sugar started to come down. I've lost over a stone and my blood preesure today was 117/73.

Low carb diets are being blamed on the obesity problem.

Since low fat foods became the rage following heart and weight scares, they've replaced the fat in foods with sugar and carbs.
Now everybody is overweight, when the culprit wasn't the fat in food in the first place.

I think they recommend no more than 30 carbs per meal. It's a real eye opener once you start checking food lables though.

Any evidence of 16/8 working?
