I'm after a vw golf 2.0 Tdi se nav for the missus. List price £23,090.Best price from carwow was £21,048.Just got a new offer in for £19,240.Seems a tad generous. Any thoughts?

There's some great lease deals on these at the mo, looks like the dealers have got some stock to offload. I bought a car via Carwow, they basically don't have anything to do with the actual sale. Once the original offer is accepted, you can communicate with the dealer directly.

Lease is a con, great for company's (tax relief) but for individuals, no way, when the term is up people think they have the option of a massive 'back' payment to finally own the fecker they would already have bought, with half the back payment plus monthly charges. They also have an inspection to get through, even though some of the scratches on the bodywork were caused by their own specified service fitters 9/10. YOU HAVE TO PAY OR STAY IN FOR ANOTHER TERM?CAR, FFS. stay away from this BS.

GoOnThen - I was reasonably happy with the transaction. I recommend selecting a dealer that's within travelling distance, or a large chain with a branch close to you. The vehicle I bought was a stock car, which is great as you don't have a lead time, but as it had been stored for a while, it wasn't clean. The delivery driver (or someone else) ate their lunch in the car if you can believe it, so there was also food on the steering wheel & driver's seat. Plus somewhere along the line, a tiny stone chip appeared on a wheel. This was with Ford, they gave me £100 to compensate for the vehicle not being clean, so that was satisfactory. They also agreed to change the wheel, but even though there's a Ford dealer within a mile of me, as an indy they said I had to travel 100 miles up to them to get the wheel replaced. So that would be a day wasted plus 200 miles gas just to get a tiny chip fixed. I didn't bother.
My understanding is that you can pay off the finance as soon as the deal is completed. It's a good way to achieve a lower price due to dealer contributions. It's well worth getting a quote off DriveTheDeal if you haven't already. boxingthefox - Individual choice I guess. I'm very clued up when it comes to finance, it's my career. I've completed 2 lease deals for new vehicles. Options is exactly that, you don't lose any money as you can pay the balloon payment (which you'd have to pay anyway, in other ways) or trade in. Of course each person needs to do their sums and ensure the arrangement is favourable to them. If you look after your vehicles then there's no issue with an inspection. The allowances for wear & tear are actually quite generous. I paid my balloon payment and sold the vehicle on the same day, and used the balance for the deposit on my next vehicle. My current vehicle is on a PCH. There's no options, I simply hand the keys back when Audi come to collect after 2 years. The deals I've seen around for the Golf TDi are PCH. Total outlay 5650 for 2 years so equates to 235 pcm. My current PCH averaged 280 pcm, for a £30K model. It's suitable for me, may not be suitable for everyone as there's no flexibility on a PCH. GAP insurance is a must. |

I'll ring the guy tomorrow btf to check he's got his figures correct,given the 2k difference between the next lowest quote. Although Ciders figure of 5,650 for two years pch looks interesting given that when I looked on Lingcars it gave me a figure of about £7,600.

My missus just bought a 66 plate Mini clubman with 54 miles on the clock. She now the second owner, the dealership had to buy it to keep up their quotas. Saved her 4K

For that price you can get a year old A4 avant with all the bells in mint condition, the automatic is a great drive. (32k new)

Huge witchhunt on diesels theyll be obsolete in 5 years PCP is the way forward if you want to change cars regularly or have nearly new car all the time. The car market is so competitive buyers have never had it so good |

I wouldn't buy a diesel, residual values are already starting to drop.
give the golf 3 years, out of warranty and no one will want it - euro 6 engine or not, the buying public are not informed and the politicians are too ignorant The golf is no longer the best on the market and VW reliability is a myth, not consider an alternative car? the new Honda Civic looks good. |

Why anyone buys a new car is beyond me when you lose shed loads of dosh the moment you drive it off the forecourt. Cars are so much more reliable these days so it hardly matters if it's a few years old.
