In my own town there are more than a dozen of these blocks. 15-20 floors in each. I used to deliver to them and the wind would whip round them like a tornado. Usually the land surrounding the blocks was left empty. Parking and play areas etc. I always thought if you could lift the block up like a child's toy and lay it on it's side it wouldn't take up anymore space. If you do a google earth look at these schemes there is lots of empty space surrounding the flats. Why build up like this? In the UK it makes no sense. three to four flights should be the maximum.
exploitative architecture? futurism? it's just a slap in the face to kettle people into hutches.

I should add, I live three up and I don't have a fire exit? If the main stairs went up - you'd be Fked. I think in the USA you have to have a fire escape on the buildings.

Is the cladding self-extinguishing or cheap stuff from China ?

That sounds potentially dangerous, zorro.
If I were you I would buy an emergency escape ladder, they make them for 3 storeys. Allows you to climb down from a window.
Here is an example, small price to pay if it saves your life.

Never thought about a ladder? I have a huge Nylon rope which was given to me.
I keep looking around for an anchor point. If the worst happened I still don't know what i'd tie the rope onto?

Maybe they should have airline shutes on tall buildings. parachutes? something for the desperate in these situations.
I heard they parachuted a baby out of the tower block today.
