The Home Office and police have made a promise of amnesty to illegal migrants who resided in the Grenfell Tower if they come forward to police. Many residents may also be given luxury flats  – whilst 7,000 UK veterans remain homeless.
The pledge of amnesty was made by the Home Office this week as many have expressed concern that illegal migrants living in the tower block may be afraid to come forward to authorities fearing potential deportation.

A Home Office spokesman said: “We will not use this tragic incident as a reason to carry out immigration checks on those involved and those providing information,” The Times reports.

If temperatures reached 1000°c in the towers and to cremate a human body the temperature has to between at least 760°c-982°c, it stands to reason it will take a long time to comb through every room and find fragments of any bone or tissue they can to ascertain the total amount of people that were killed in the fire, which is why they said they may never know.

The authorities reaction to this terrible tradegy has and still is appalling.

We need to sort this out. Housing is one of the biggest problems facing our people and it does not matter a jot if we an in the EU or out of it. Regaining our Sovereignty is one thing but taking back control of our country is another.

We are not here to provide the means for rich people to get richer at our expense. Maybot is giving away £1Billion of our tax payer money to shore up her shortcomings meanwhile who is going to pay for the neccessary safety repairs to many tower blocks?

We need homes and a decent health service. The emergency service workers who were visited by the Maybot will not be getting a pay rise of more than 1%.

I believe we shall see thie Grenfell tradegy used again and again as a catalyst for change. We are many they are few and we do not have to put up with it anymore!
Report Injera June 29, 2017 4:33 PM BST
Official numbers of those living at Grenfell have not been released. Nor has a figure been given for the number of survivors. Pretty damn odd if you ask me.
Report Whisperingdeath June 29, 2017 4:44 PM BST
You can look on the Electoral Roll / Council Tax List for the Official Number of occupants to start. They need to be questioned if they actually lived there. If they did not who did? That would be my official starting point and then I would ask the residents
Report saddo June 29, 2017 4:51 PM BST
Anyone housing illegals in there will be wondering what to tell the authorities. They will probably not be on any register. We may never know how many lived there, never mind if they were rescued or perished.
Report Whisperingdeath June 29, 2017 5:03 PM BST
Very true saddo, very true!

I can see where you are coming from " illegals "

Furthermore I am struck hom many muslims were housed there. How did they get that housing? I am not being funny but apart from the risk of death by fire those places are not bad to live in. Good sized rooms with great views. I know rents in that area can reach $500-£700 a week and more if in private property.

So I ask why do you assume they are illegals who burned to death? Why not ordinary people who just wanted to live close to where they worked? Maybe British citizens, God forbid maybe white folk? You can't really tell what colour they were after a fire of that intensity.

So why did you use the term " illegals " saddo?

and would you believe her InjeraLaugh?

Must have been plenty of people subletting to make a buck. Some will focus on the fact that maybe they were " Foreign " some that maybe they were " Muslim ".

I would like to think that, lets remove Grenfell from the equation, I work, people I know work and they work hard. Why should they work hard when someone else gets their rent and council tax paid for them? I am not talking black or white or brown or muslim here.

Grenfell might have been a death trap but it was location location location! How could I have got one of those? Some might think why do immigrants and " Muslims " get " sheite property " and people no doubt many people on here will focus on that. Others like saddo and his ilk will focus on how " illegals and muslims " get properties. I would love a property in such a location but I would never be offered one because I work! Am I white, black, brown, muslim or Christian? I am just a guy who works for a living ( well ashley I work to save me from betfair ). Many young men I work with will never have a chance to own their own home. That is truly sad in a great country like ours!

From the Independant...

The scope of most inquests is limited, but they can have a wider frame of reference if Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights is invoked. Article 2 inquests are held when public bodies or “their agents” have “failed to protect the deceased against a human threat or other risk”.

An inquest into the deaths in the Grenfell Tower fire would likely fall into this category. The coroner would be almost certain to summon a jury to return a verdict due to the involvement of public bodies.

nice one foxy loxy!

Interesting article.

To me it seems like an Inquiry can lead to a whitewash due to a narrow frame of reference and time taken to produce " thorough " investigation!. While there are problems with an inquest I think it might be more honest as it might not aportion blame but indicate there was some. I just hope the Police do their job properly!
Report boxingthefox June 29, 2017 7:56 PM BST
Wink The judge was very quick to let us know that this is probably how it will go, perhaps testing reaction to see if he/they can get away with such narrow terms of reference.??

The main culprit is the outdated one size fits all Class 0 spread of flame model, it allows company's to meet minimum standards as long as the surface can get by this regulation never mind what combustibility lies behind it!.

Ironic that an American company manufactured these panels that are banned in America, have the manufactures got blood on their hands, I'll let you make your own mind up on that one.

Laboratory type testing conditions can never mimic the real thing so if they are to be relied on this will occur again in some other form.

I'm sure 'they' will say we have perfectly good fire regs that just need proper application, WE DON'T.
The company I worked for conducted far more rigorous tests on their products than was required, because we considered the regs to be fatally flawed/weak. We were awarded a 4 hr rating on our products, our own tests only stopped after we had surpassed 4 hrs easily and the product retained it's integrity. and was still providing  vital cover.

One was where they were offered a place "It was on a busy street" ffs your living in central London what do you expect then there was one on telly this morning with his daughter saying he did not take up the offer as it was a mile away from his daughters school ! During my youth I had many schools due to the family constantly moving so that my step father could pursue his career, I can't recall one school being within a one mile radius of where we lived. I feel so sad for the people who died in such a horrific way and for their surviving family members knowing that their loved one passing was in such terrible circumstances. .......

This raises a wider social issue.

Those people who are not fortunate enough to get social housing have very little security in their private rentals. They might get a year contract but most are 6 months or run month to month with the constant fear of being moved on.

Then you have people in social housing demanding long-term security and right to stay in very expensive areas they could not afford on the open market. They also have the right to buy which private renter obviously do not. It seems very unfair on the private renters who pay market rent and taxes that subsidize social housing.
