they lost half of Egypt to Israel in 1967,  several other territories, large swathes of land - jerusalem was kept from Jordan/Palestine.  If they attack and lose that's what happens.

Slicer, I was going to add that a greater motivation was probably a major factor in Israel's victory in so much as they were fighting for their existence and as you say, cannot afford to lose any war.

As for the occupied territories, isn't that what happens when you win a war? You retain territory to act as a buffer against your enenies. Especially understandable for a narrow country like Israel. (I think just 11 miles wide at some points.)

You are almost correct. It is what happens when the winner of a war retains territory- except for the unique exception Israel. For some reason it does not apply in this case. If anyone really can't guess the reason for this, I suggest you ask Jeremy Corbyn, Ken Livingstone and George Galloway for the answer!
