I think the problem is that many Moslems refuse to acknowledge that Islam itself has historically deep inherent problems that still exist today.
My view is that it's about 500 years ago and I cannot understand adherence to it, or any other religion come to that.
But, tarring all of them as some sort of hate-filled club, because some nutters and fanatics use the religion as a banner, doesn't seem right.

The present problems just serve to highlight Islam's incompatibility with Western society. Christianity only exists due to it being watered down to a point where it is benign. This is not going to happen with Islam, therefore suspicion of those who strictly adhere to it is hardly surprising. I think the onus is now on the followers of "The religion of Peace" to prove they aren't a threat.
The day that Sikhs, Hindus, Jews, Buddhists etc start killing people in the name of their god on the streets of Britain I'd say the same should apply to them.

I admit it's quite easy to forget even though it's not that long ago - major AQ attacks listed below then add in the ethnic cleansing of Shia muslims
