desensitize make less sensitive. make (someone) less likely to feel shock or distress at scenes of cruelty or suffering by overexposure to such images. "people who view such movies become desensitized to violence"
i've said in the past, films were not as violent - even the apex movies like Bond films were less visceral. John Wick films are just violence throughout.
we are getting used to massacres. police in the streets with automatic rifles. in batman style body armour.
we've seen it now at such frequency that we start to make jokes about it. even the army guy who executed the unarmed prisoner made a tv like comment as he 'offed' him - shuffle off this mortal coil.
first stage in turning people into capable killers.
First step in society accepting terrorism as normal I would say.
Deny anger a place in the reaction.
Do not question the religion of peace.
Actively promote 'carry on as normal' as a viable and credible response to children picking bits of shrapnel out of their faces.
Marginalise any agitation for change to the status quo.
Give airtime to poets and people giving out hugs

zorro makes a good point, the internet and video games and films are very dangerous things, we are going to have to consider the damage that they can do and do like China and censor the internet and ban some violent films and games.

Buried deep in their community. It is pretty obvious what goes on. The community, Imam, mosque congregation and neighbours knew about his behaviour. Did they report him and was it ignored or.........?

So you don’t want to be angry? Not angry at the fact that teenagers going to a concert have had their lives ended or the faces and bodies deliberately ripped apart and thousands of others traumatised?
Not angry that despite stopping tens of other terrorist attacks in the last few years, the people who govern us are seemingly incapable of stopping this happening again and again in the coming years.
Of course that anger shouldn’t be targeted at the much mentioned ordinary Muslims who live and work peacefully in this country but I’ll tell you what also makes me angry –
the same people on here (and my Facebook page) who rightly say that we shouldn’t lump all Muslims in with the extremists are the same people who when Jo Cox was murdered were out in force calling it a consequence of the rise of the nasty Brexiteers – tarring the 17 million people subsequently exercised their democratic rights in the EU referendum with the same brush.
Why do some people only use this argument in one direction and not the other?
You ask what it does to prevent terrorism? – the short answer is nothing. Were you angry when Jo Cox was murdered? If so what good did that do? Again the short answer is nothing but when we stop feeling angry at this sort of thing is when we really start to accept it as a normal part of life. If you are not angry then you are already doing that.

They want the idiot fringe to get louder and retaliate against all the decent muslims who are as culpable of this atrocity as you or I, they want to sew division and hatred.
Eh?
Who does?

I sometimes wonder if the likes of Hopkins, Robinson, prison planet guy etc are in on it all. Are they part funded by some lunatic Saudi prince?
No mate, they're simply journalists doing their job which is to bring stuff to the public's eye.
Have you got a problem with that?

porky is an apologist I wonder at what his actual allegiance is. What are the connections that lead him to these pro islamic conlusions. You have to wonder. He tries to confuse the issue and make out it has nothing to with islam.

as for screaming mad - he thinks they are all nutters - a small number - therefor dismissing any ideology or plain reason for the daesh strategy and the support it gets amongst the wider community.

So if people get angry, what does that do to stop or prevent terrorism?
It doesn't ofc, but people will regardless if they think things are not fair, and perhaps more so if they feel certain views are being silenced. It's best to be straight and open. Not obfuscate what is perhaps the main issue, the religion's intolerance.

Personally, I'm all for banging on about tolerance and getting along, but I want the likes of Piers Morgan's views to get an airing. I don't expect his views to dominate, I expect the opposite. But I think you won't get anywhere unless you take everyone's views into account. Just perhaps Piers Morgan is on the right lines.

What has been highlighted is the basic, decency and humanity of the vast majority of UK citizens when faced with the unimaginable horror of mass-murder, right up in your face.
For me, this does not preclude asking wholly reasonable questions of our political leaders and the wider society in which we live. If - as seems likely given the modus operandi of the terroist concerned - this has been inspired by Islam then questions must be asked of ALL Muslims.
Do they believe and take literally Quran 3:151?
Will they work with intelligence and law enforcement agencies to flush out perpetrators and would-be perpetrators of these actions?
Do they agree that in a secular society where they have made their homes, British rule of law is paramount above and beyond any adherence to religious codes?
It's not good enough to brand anyone raising these questions as 'Islamophobes' (a phobia being an irrational fear of something - when there is no irrationality as far as I'm concerned in raising perfectly legitimate questions). It's not good enough to swallow the 'Religion of Peace' soundbyte which is trotted out time and again in these circumstances (The Quaran is a very violent book if you read it). It's not good enough to come out with ther thousand and one pieties about 'Israel....Brevihk....the murder of Jo Cox by a white supremacist....promising young footballer.....mental illness....Britsh foreign policy....designed to take the focus off the real perpetrators of this and the majority of recent terrorist atrocities inflicted on the West.
Love and strength to the victims, the emergency services who did their jobs so magnificently and everyone else reacting as decent human beings when faced with the suffering of another.

The fact that radical Muslims and moderate Muslims share so many views is a major stumbling block.
Where one ends and the other begins can never be clear. The ideologies are two close.
When you accept the moderates, you will have to get ready to deal with the extremists at some point.

I forget who said it... 'An extremist muslim will cut your head off, a moderate muslim will hold you while he's doing it', or something like that? As Dr Crippen says, 'Where one ends and the other begins can never be clear.'

barking mad thinks they are all nutters - no reason to do what they do - which avoids having to explain motivation BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY - the book that gives them that reason. So barking is trying to blow smoke on the whole issue. Basically and apologist for islam.

WHY are we talking about Muslims - they are pre FKed. leave them alone, this is what we did with the Japanese, first we fight them, them we become friends and then we absorb some of their culture? Stop talking about them. they are not the focus of our lives. forget them and get on with your life. stop living in fear. Let the authorities deal with them, it's the job they applied for as MP's.
