A horses natural instinct when racing is to try to gallop past the horse just in front and overtake it ..
So This Australian Trotting malarkey --
How come they keep "trotting" and don't break into a gallop ??
Have they been battered into submission
over the years harshly to make them conform
and not gallop , or what ??
Does anybody have any actual knowledge or experience of this sport ??

Yes ..leave it alone, I once had the first 5 in correct order for a Quinte plus when living in Paris and the horse and driver that finished first was
disqualified for breaking into a trot a few metres before the winning line

Theres a lot more harnessing and straps going on in trotting. Horse can barely take a dump without a jockey pulling a lever somewhere.
