I used to go all the time with my late missus, made a fairly decent living from it. Enough anyway that my good lady could be a full time mum for her short time on this earth leaving my children way to early. Finds we had a 1934 Royal Doulton lady for £2 sold for £180. A Pelham puppet "witch Doctor, one four bought for £75. Cant remember how much I got for the other three but that one made £134 on EBay. However while not bought at a car boot the hounors went to my missus. She bought a paperweight for a pound from a charity shop. We used to do a antique fair at Farhnam maltings the last Saturday of each month with our better finds. She said she'd put £12 to take ten on it. I told her to hold on as I thought it was something. Months went by rattling around in the draw, holding down lottery tickets etc.
Anyway I finally took it to Ardingly antiques fair to a paperweight dealers I knew attended there. I said I had this paperweight with a few little chips in it would she be interested ? "Oh it's simply superb, I must have it. Would you accept £600 for it"? I said that would be acceptable. I followed up with could you confirm what it is. " Its an 1850 primrose Baccarat" I didn't have a fu cking clue what it was and she could of said I'll give you thirty quid for it and I'd of been happy ! Not long before my wife passed away she said with great satisfaction "I guess I beat you buying the best bargain"  Mind you she also said scatter my ashes on Ferring beach as it's the closest a fat b@rstard like me would get to buying her a beach front property  |

I actually enjoy watching 'Salvage Hunters' because I don't think much, if any, of it is staged.
Also drews knowledge is incredible! Having said that he's not the best negotiator. to the point that he regularly offers more than the seller asks for. Case in point, the recent episode had him on a seven hour pilgrimage from Wales, to a magnificent 'Baronial Hall in Scotland. Much was made of the necessity for it to be a good haul, as the expenses could negate any profits. The owner had to sell, as he was downsizing, and there must have been loads up for grabs Drew expressed interest in a worn out leather sofa, and asked if it was for sale, and how much would he want for it. £500.00 was asked for and Drew said "that's not nearly enough, I'll give you £1,200.00 for it!!! Can't remember everything he bought but there was that, plus a commode (which had missing brasswork), a carved wooden animal, a brass (I think) log container, and maybe another item. Off they went, and had spent £3k, and he said he was happy with that!!! For Christ's sake, he blew £700.00 on the sofa, and the speculative profit value was no where near 50%. Deduct the travelling costs and, I'm assuming they must have stayed over somewhere, so he was on a clear loss! That's why I mentioned before, that he probably gets more for the show, than from his trades! |

I never go to car boot sales as I never worked out how anyone can sell the boot of their care without detaching it from the rest of the car. If you watch any of the "Antique" type progs, you will wonder how any of the "experts" ever make a living! Of Course they make monet if they are auctioneers, what with the buyers and sellers premium running at between 15-25%.Yes-there will be the odd good buy, but imagine trying to do it everyday. Also look at the travelling costs- make progs like Put Your Monet Where Your Mouth is a farce. With the Antiques Road Trip- you try getting stuff at the prices they pay. ITCANTBEDONE!

brand new tennis racket - £1.
bought a pc tower for £30, it was ultra modern. but it had not been built. components were all there but not assembled. sold the parts on ebay. £90. hoover for £8 - still working five years later. pc for twenty - swapped over a dvd drive, it had a cd. Still working five years later. tablet £5 not working - resold in ebay £30 - needed android OS. camera £7 - records 30mins video? bargain. speakers for pc - £2 not been to carboot in a year? should try and go? bargains galore. |

I buy golf clubs, i have 500+ in my workshop,at this time, most from car boots.
I only buy if the price is right, or i can clean and polish the club for a profit. Best buy was a set of BERYLLIUM COPPER irons for £40 sold the next week for £230 I think to do well at the car boots you must concentrate on and become expert in a particular product, mine is golf clubs. |

A friend of mine bought some old leather golf shoes from a charity shop for a fiver. She sold them on EBay for £35

I once got a U.S.B microphone for 20p which was retailing at £70.00 sold it to a mate for £20..

I used to buy old dinner sets and sold them to a dinnerware replacement company, made a killing. Even at antique fairs I could pick up sets cheaply as no one wants to display and pack away a thirty piece dinner set.

The worst car boot i have ever been to, was on holiday up North a couple of months back.
Sedgfield racecourse £2 to get in,just to look at a load of tat. They tried to get people to pay to get in down south, and they stopped going, soon made it Free entrance again. |

I'm very good at picking out valuable vinyl records and used to be good on P.C. video games
nowadays most p.c. games are single use so have no value second hand unfortunately but charity shops still sell these unplayable games |

I acquired an old Beatles album with them in butchers coats and dismembered babies. It was for the American market so rare over here. I had seen several reports of it being worth well over a grand. I put it on Bbay and waited for the money to roll in. Not one poxy bid
 It was in a bunch of records. Ended up selling them including said album to a record dealer. Mind you he wanted to know that the deal included that album |

In 2006 you could pretty much make a profit on anything you bought and sold on EBAY nowadays
it's a lot harder.Things to look out for are basically any mint Albums that are original pressings and niche things like metal tapes DAT Tapes etc. |

I know that feeling, at an auction once there was a very large Lladro figure of two horse with jockeys racing, my late wife was interested and said we should buy it, I didn't want to because if we knocked an ear off it would be more or less valueless. Anyway long story short we left a bid of £360 and managed to win the bid. A dealer friend put me onto a Lladro dealer who gave me £950 for it so we decided to take the kids to Disneyland Paris with the proceeds, however when the trip came along I was skint so ended up putting about £500 on the credit card. Only I could make a large profit and end up potless  |
