She was lucky could have been a very nasty incident. I've seen a few accidents in the paddock over the years and the worst one was with Tommy Stack up at Hexham, when a horse slipped and rolled over him in the paddock. His injuries were serious including multiple fractures to his pelvis, left him in traction for months....and retired from riding the following year.
Sometimes a little freak accident like that can be the worst. Anna Lisa Balding was really lucky yesterday when the horse kicked out and missed her and she only broke her phone. |

The nutter horse i was trying to think of was Marinsky who in 1977 was disqualified after winning the Diomed stakes at Epsom after biting Relkino during the race.
I now remember the race;if it's on you tube it's certainly worth watching. |

Marinsky bit Gentilhombre in the july cup and was disqualified.

I was at Kempton when Greville Starkey's mount swerved and hit the rail in a 5f sprint ..
Starkey lay prone on the turf and was loaded into an ambulance. I have photos. Andrew Balding's wife probably votes Tory ............. |

Ribero - Marinsky didn't bite Genti.. He was disqualified for accidental interference AND that his trainer had previously given an undertaking that the horse would not run in England again. |

Ribero - Sorry meant to add that I think you may be getting muddled up with Marinskys previous activies at Epsom earlier in that year when he savaged Relkino mid race.

A lot of the time a horse is just being playful or attention-seeking when it kicks. Watch a couple of horses charging around a field - they frequently lash out at each other with their back legs, but they never seem to connect, or even expect to connect. Because their eyes are located to the sides of the head, they always see the kick coming and naturally avoid it. The one doing the kicking knows this, and never expects to connect. It's just the same as dogs play-fighting with each other.
The problem comes when they treat humans the same way. We don't see the kick coming, and naturally consider it as aggression when it does connect. At least you can expect to be kicked from a horse's rear end, and take precautions. It's cow kicking (kicking forward with the hind leg) that can be really horrible, because you don't expect to be injured just standing next to a horse's flank. I remember seeing it happen to Pat Eddery once: all he was doing was chatting to the nag's connections in the winner's enclosure, having just removed the saddle, and wham! Down he went. |

Ok blackbarn,he may not have actually bit him but from what I remember he definitely had a go at Gentilhombre which caused the interference and the resulting disqualification,is it on youtube?
