Yes -- though what the media missed in their condemnation of snobbery is that white van man probably does not see himself as working class anyway. If he owns the van rather than just drives it, WVM is more likely to be a thrusting entrepreneur who runs a small business and votes Tory.

If he drives van to earn a living he's working class. And even if he owns his council house, he is deluded if he thinks this puts him on par with Tory boys.

Thornberry's response was almost correct, just badly worded. She should have said something along the lines of "I'm afraid you will have to wait for John McDonnell's speech at the manifesto launch".

One of the many problems facing Labour is their four big hitters who are never off the TV screens are Abbot, Thornberry, McDonald and Corbyn. All of them London centric with absolutely no resonance with anyone outside the capital.

And by doing so, Thatcher sold off thousands of houses , depriving people who could not afford a deposit/mortgage somewhere to live. This legacy has effected families over the subsequent years. Today the situation is worse than it's ever been. No social housing is being built.The Tories have cut the budgets to local councils that used to fund such builds.
Thatcher conned society. She maintained the revenue from the sell off of Council houses would be used to build more.
But it wasn't. The money went toward paying off the UK debt.

Give me the figures. How many Council houses have been built by this Tory Government since they were last elected. And I mean Social houses, built for people to rent from the council. Not the joke of ' affordable houses'

Developments other than for just a couple of houses have to provide a mix of social housing. If they dont provide enough "to rent for perpetuity" you should blame the local council as usually they decide the mix they want according to local housing need.
The problem is the time it takes to get planning permission. If more houses were built you would get more social housing.
Of course its the landowner who is forced to provide the housing rather than the Government generously paying for it but thats the price you pay for planning permission along with contributing to local education, new bus stops, road improvements etc etc.

Thats written by someone like you who doesnt understand the planning system.

If you are interested there must be plenty online about planning obligations and section 106 agreements and what percentage of the housing has to be classed as affordable. In lots of cases it was certainly 30%.

Like I said above Councils are supposed to look at local need when deciding the mix they require and if they arent providing enough to rent then thats their mistake not central government.

One thing is for sure the Thatcherite dream of a property owning democracy is now dead in the water

As I understand it , if there's less than a certain amount of houses on a development site , then there is no obligation to build ' affordable houses '
The term affordable Is a joke. Near where I live, six 4 bedroom houses and two 3 bedroom ' affordable houses ' were to be built. The developers have now resubmitted their plans. Because there's no obligation on the site to build affordable houses, because the development is less than 10 houses, the plan now is for six 5 bedroom houses.
It's  an utter joke.

However, the term affordable housing keeps being used. This is  not Social( ie Council)! houses.

Indeed small developments are exempt but the majority of developments are legally required to provide a percentage which can be 30%. The mix of "affordable" housing is negotiated with the local authority.

Im not saying you are wrong concerning the levels of houses for long term rent being built just explaining that it could be a Labour or Tory local council who are failing to deliver not central government.

I know of developments where the entire "affordable" element was housing to be rented for perpetuity as that was what the local parish council wanted and it was supported by local housing needs surveys.

Of course some  people may want different things to you and their needs also have to be considered.

If I were a thrusting young male who couldn't afford to buy a property I would probably turn to stealing from the mega rich.
