How dare an irrelevant pygmy from an irrelevant country that one mortar bomb would probably destroy tweak the tail of the English tiger.About time we flexed our muscles and dealt with this jumped up nonentity.
Report asparagus May 5, 2017 7:15 PM BST
French was the official language used before we joined the EU so actually quite logical now we are leaving.

Why not give it in Latin ffs. Speak English already, it's what Jesus spoke, heard it in Ben Hur which is 100% historically accurate.

C'est la guerre!
Report scandanavian_haven May 5, 2017 7:52 PM BST
English is quite easy to speak so don't think that'll change much, French pronounciation is more difficult.
Report Foinavon May 5, 2017 8:00 PM BST
When the Common Market was formed, learning French as a second language was quite widespread. Nowadays everyone learns English, I doubt this will go down well with the Germans. He is what the French would call "un vieux con" and having such as he representing Europe is an embarrassment.
Report Just Checking May 5, 2017 8:03 PM BST
English is the lingua franca of the world, never mind Europe. not many french speakers in Norway or Poland or Hungary or Eastern Germany. But you'll by in English with anyone below the age of Doh Wah.
Report lybertyne May 5, 2017 8:18 PM BST
According to the EU's own data (albeit from 2012) 38% of EU citizens speak English as a second language compared to 12% who can speak French as an additional language.

**** - my old french professor went on at length at how they have an organization to protect the french language from english creeping in. All their words were in danger. saying that when the normans conquered us they brought their language here and sixty percent of english is french bastardized. the author of the three muskateers said - but english is all french.

junker started the speech in English, most films in english or indian? the want to watch starwars not some french romance flick.
Report ufcdan May 6, 2017 4:57 PM BST

French politicians want to keep the the 'french hate the british' line but really the french people have EXACTLY the same problems we have.  Go there and mix and you will find the truth.
What a drunk luxemburger has to with it  I have no idea.
Report Torquemada May 6, 2017 7:36 PM BST
Half the world have a massive inferiority complex regards Britain, and France suffer from it more than most.
Report moisok May 6, 2017 7:38 PM BST
I have always found most french people tend to be EXACTLY the same as us as far as what they want and  what there problems are.
