Isn't that shingles? My dad had it and he was pretty ill for a good couple of weeks. Parents used to encourage their children to play with over kids who had chicken pox because it is less severe in childhood I believe. Don't know if that is still the case, though.

Shingles , nothing to worry about. It is sore but not that painful. The Toubib offered me anti -depressants when I had it. I laughed at him.

I had it as a 13 year old and it laid me low for about 3 weeks.  Felt terrible.  Definitely something to get out of the way when you're little.

You can get chicken pox as an adult but normally you get shingles instead. A couple I knew covered both options!

I did hear a year or so ago that there is now a jab one can have to avoid getting shingles. Whether it's on the NHS or not, I'm not sure.
Report Foinavon April 29, 2017 5:01 PM BST
I had the shingles jab, mokegibboni. You are eligible to have it free on the NHS when you reach 70. Our doctors' practice gave it at the same time as the flu jab.
