Do you get some weird pleasure out of it? Hope this makes sense: A child could get a hole in one. Someone playing their first every round of golf could get one. |

What are the odds of O'Sullivan hitting a 147 in his next competitive frame of snooker. Against the odds of Tiger Woods hitting a hole in one in his first competitive shot at the 1st hole on Royal Lytham St Annes (par 3).
The answer would make tigers task look far more difficult |

I can play darts, I'm pretty lousy at snooker, and I'm shocking at golf. But this would my list in terms of happening for me.
1. Hole in one 2. 9 darter 3. 147 break Joe Bloggs can get lucky and hit a hole in one. Nobody could ever fluke the other two. |

It would seem almost inconceivable for a top snooker player like Ronnie to go a season without a 147 in practise or matchplay. Likewise, for Taylor or MVG. Tiger went years without a hole in one, and if he didnt get one for 10 years, it wouldnt be unusual.
Comparing how many snooker players have had 147s against darts players getting nine-darters is a good start, but doesnt take into account that snooker players are probably better at their sport than dart players are at theirs (in my opinion), and so if the occurences were the same, then that wouldnt necessarily mean that they were equally difficult My initial instinct was to agree with the original posters and have 147 as the hardest, but on reflection I would go for : Hole in One 147 9 darter My biggest argument with this list is that I have had a hole in one (a good shot but obviously lucky to go in), and cannot conceive of getting anywhere near the other two |

It depends what angle you come from.
If you had 50 million people and 25 million of them dedicated their life to snooker and the other dedicated their life to darts, there would be a lot more 147s than 9 darter imo. You see more 9 darters these days because darts is played regularly by far more people. It's not as easy to play snooker as regularly as darts. Do you factor in that in or not? There are possibly 1,000 more dartboards in the country than snooker tables. In terms of natural talent I think a 9 darter is clearly harder, but a 147 seems harder. |

You are comparing apples with oranges when it comes to amateurs v professionals.
For an amateur undoubtedly a hole in 1 is far more achievable. A hole in one is scored once in every 3,500 rounds with between 1-2% of golfers hitting one each year and 57% are made by handicappers between 10-19. This becomes virtually zero when amateurs try to get a 9 darter or a 147. However, for professionals it's far easier to get a 9 darter or a 147 than it is to get a hole in one. The odds of a tour player hitting a hole in one are 3,000-1. The odds of a pro dart player or snooker player achieving a 9 darter or 147 are considerably less. In practice professionals regularly hit 9 darters and 147's. They do it less on the big stage for obvious reasons. Yet a hole in one is still a rarity for a pro golfer. A tour pro the other day hit an ace and he said it's only his 3rd one ever (mid 30's). There won't be a top snooker player who hasn't hit at 10 x that. And for darts players it would be nearer 100 x. Every week in the PL we hear how the pro in the practice room hit a 9 darter prior to his match. |

In golf you might play 5 par 3s a day. In snooker you play, say a maximum of 25 frames, and in darts you could play, say a maximum of 250 legs. So you have to factor that in too.

Also with golf you are not necessarily trying for a hole in one, in snooker you are nearly always not trying for a 147, yet in darts every game you are playing, you are aiming for a 9 darter.

you can't compare something that can be achieved by a certain element of luck, such as a hole in one, and something that cannot be achieved by luck such as a 147 and assume that means getting a 147 is more difficult .
It just means it is not possible to do with luck. |

Of course it is possible to get a hole in with with luck, but a hole in one is at the same time more difficult to do than get a 147 with ability and skill.

A 147 cannot be done with luck, but then that is the case with many things. That does not prove they are difficult to do in and of itself

Obv as an amateur its far easier to hit a hole in 1, as you have a chance, the others you have no chance, especially a 147.
However if your life depended on it which of the3 options would you choose to save your life. 1/ Dustin Johnson to hit a hole in 1 in a tour event in 2017 2/ Mark Selby to hit a 147 in a pro event in 2017 3/ Michael Van Gerwen to hit a 9 darter in a pro event in 2017 My guess would be the last choice would be a hole in 1. or even 1 frame, v 1 game of darts v 1 par 3 prob the hole in 1 would be everybody's last choice. However it is the only 1 us mere mortals have a chance of achieving. Even I have managed to get 1  |

Selby will hit a 147 sooner or later. MVG will hit a 9 darter, (he was one dart away from having two in a row not long ago) but DJ could go the rest of his life without getting a hole in one. |
