I've been to Gibraltar once. The cable car and the monkeys were fun, but apart from that, it was one of the most depressing, soul-less places I've ever visited.

Hong Kong wasn't ours to give back, we had it on a 99 year lease which ran out.

I used to travel to Gib a lot with work - an absolute toilet of a place, reminded me of the 1970's
very popular with chav families who were attracted by the cheap booze and even cheaper **** (£1.20 a pack) In summer the place was rammed with obese sunburnt scots eating egg&chips three times a day and drinking and smoking themselves to death |

i would pay spain to take gibraltar back nothing there as for tax free theres a betting shop there still stops tax all electrical are much more then in england t.v there £800 over here £500 TO £600 GIBRALTAR a very boring placE

The place might well be a toilet to live in. I have no idea. But there's no way that the US is going to let excitable Spaniards get their hands on all that surveillance hardware. Nothing goes in or out of the Med without us (and by extension the US) knowing, and I can't see anything being allowed to jeopardize that.

Gib is a dump. But-Strategically it controls the entrance to the Med as anyone who has cruised through the Straits knows. Cannot give it up. Spain's economy is in tatters- if you are brave you can buy a reasonable 2 bed house not far from the sea with great views for 80 k euros. If Spain starts anything, just stop imports of Seat cars and all other Spanish stuff and ban holidays there. They need us more than we need them. How many Spanish holiday in the UK compared to Brits holidaying in Spain and its islands? Nuff said.

Don't need military to invade Spain, just leave it to tourists. Place is awash with John Smiths, fry up's, roast dinners ( with all the trimmings) and if you speak Spanish no one understands a f00kin word you're saying.

This is the truth , we'll never give up the Rock of Gibralter as it's a key Vantage point in case of any war ! Do Spain even have an Army .. do they all eat three eggs for breakfast ..  Funny I was looking at Spanish property recently & prices compare very closely to the West midlands .. like for like .. and that's where I'd rather stay  |
