An odd mnemonic because the opposite sounds just as reasonable: spring back, fall forwards.

nobody says the fall in Britain so doesn't work. it's autumn.

People in Britain do say the fall.

Twice a year when they refer to the clocks being changed.

Lots of people used "the fall" on the racing forum this week when that hoarse unshipped his rider when clear just before the winning post. Other words were also used.
