Sound of the sixties with Tony Blackburn

Hmmm-BBC has turned a show that was something special and not to be missed into a run of the mill everyday Tony Blackburn Show! Won't be going out of my way to listen again and certainly won't waste any time listening on I Player. I won't be listening again. More dumbing down by the Beeb Boobs!

Maybe its because i haven't heard TB for ages that i found the show entertaining..ho hum.

Nothing wrong with Tony Blackburn and if you enjoy it -great. My point is that it is a totally different show-non informative and now just another radio prog. I used to listen more carefully to the snippets of info in between records provided by Brian more than the tracks themselves. Almost totally absent with Tony. Totally different.

I happened to mention to Mrs Twiz your exact point Dr regarding the lack of background preceding the songs and she said to me" if you weren't moaning about something u'd have fck all to say"..well..in not quite those words but you get my drift.

But that's what made SOTS Special. Obviously Mrs Twiz doesn't have the excellent musical comprehension like wot we do. At least we are not moaning about non triers (except the BBC) or a missed penalty.

Good shout Twizzle. Just tuned in on BBC radio player in Spain. Cracking first 3 tunes!

Sounds of the 60s

Brian presents a special edition of the show where the last word of each song title will be the first word of the next. Starting off the chain reaction will be 'Hello, I Love You' by The Doors - see if you can guess what Brian will be playing, before he gives it a spin. With music from: Dusty Springfield, The Doors, Sam & Dave, Ambrose Slade, The Marvelettes, Sandie Shaw, Tom Jones and many more!

I like Tony Blackburn but would prefer him on Pick Of The Pops, Sounds of the 60s belongs to Brian Matthew. I also liked the snippets of info in between records that Brian use to do and Tim Rice was also very good with little bits of info which made it more interesting.

Blackburn was ok this morning (safe pair of hands) and started the show with Flowers In The Rain - the same song he played when he opened Radio 1 in the 60s. He is a good replacement but after 27 years it was - and still should be - Matthew's show. He is 88 now and reckon Brian could still have been doing Sounds of the 60s when he is 90, terrible decision to replace Britains's oldest DJ.

thanks slicer,totally agree with you,the old show was very special and ive not meet anybody who understand the decision to sack brian and change a wonderful unmissable for years,oleary at 8 on a Saturday morning? nah!

made the mistake of turning the radio on Saturday morning bright and early only to hear this watered down dum dum version of a once great show. no nothing to it just playing a few hits ,wheres the 3 in a row,wheres the b sides,the rare songs you might not of heard before,the loose connections, a horrible nothing show now,well done the bbc and thank you
