That was Chingford SF, although it might have applied to other courses.

Fenway..Sunningdale is one of the few top course i haven't played but i know as i'm sure you do its a real beaut.I  was invited as a guest to play the magnificent St Georges hill in Weybridge last year...all the houses surrounding the course cost 20 mill upwards and i was in awe of the place.Anyway i was blown away by the experience even though i played like Jean Van DE Velde on the last hole at the open. All the cars in the car park were Bentleys, Rolls Royce's, Porche's..you get the picture.I was driving my wifes 10 yr old Fiesta.
On exiting the clubhouse i made my way over to the Fiesta only to find a group of golfers who i had been talking to chatting in the car park.I was embarrassed by my wife's   purple car so i took my mobile out and pretended to make a call but standing well away from the car.I was stood pretending to talk to no one for well over an hour before they all departed...what a plonker i was(and it was freezing)

Study..mmm is correct that's Chingford.Hainault is in very good condition presently seeing as its February and well worth a visit. When i first started playing there all those years ago you would have to queue up for ages before teeing off and it would take you the best part of 5 hours to get round.Today it took us 3 hours and the course was empty.During the week its only £13 to play and you also get the chance to stare at the lovely Josie's thrupenny bitsGrin

PS..putters still up the treeLaugh

I'm assuming Josie wasn't working there last time I went then.
That's right, the queue to play. I'd forgotten that.

Played with my golf partner who worked for United Airlines, he took me over to play in their golf competition. Cracking trip. Not far from St Georges Hill is a cracking course that few ever get to play. The New Zealand. Beautiful place.

This thread has inspired me... I have played just 9 holes (the Essex garden course at Earls Colne) about 6 months ago. I was unspeakably useless in every department. Other than that no golf in 8 years - I gave my lovely clubs to a fellow forumite in lieu of some kindness shown to me. (By the way, I'd like my 10 iron back mate, if you can find it). I can add it to my new set of clubs (I was given them, they're fine, I think).

I intend to go back to Hainault, maybe Chingford and one place I played near Southend beginning with a B (which was very slopey as I recall), none of which I've been to in nearly 30 years.

Then it's Colne Valley, Gosfield, The Essex. All of which haven't been seen in about 8 (or more) years.

My aim is to break 100. If I do, I'll resurrect this thread and "Woo Hoo" with Twizzle.

Twizzle, the only really top course (or courses) I have played in that area is the Berkshire (Red and Blue). A friend of mine has played St Georges Hill and like you he said it is fantastic but very exclusive.

GoOnThen, the day after Sunningdale I am playing New Zealand. I'm not sure they will let my modest little Kia Venga in the car park!

Belfairs, That's it!. I only went there once. I remember some of the fairways were almost at 45 degrees.

You'd have to give me more than 16 shots I reckon.
Perhaps we could arrange that, yes. Could be fun.
Maybe after Easter. (Would have to be a Monday or Tuesday too).

You're in for a treat Fenway. When I played they had the results up for their monthly medal competition. Only five players took part in it. My kind of odds. Also the lockers had the owners name engraved in the wooden door, when they pass away a line is put through the name and the new one carved below. Class!

I'll message you both when it's likely. I'd invite Fenway too only it's a bit of a trot from your place mate - However, it IS close to Romford dogs!!!

I played New Zealand once as a guest in a competition years ago. Playing off 18 I chipped in 3 times from off the green, holed a bunker shot and putted like a demon and won by 6 points and got a lovely troph!. The regulars were not too happy with me but it was just one of those freaky rounds that happens every now and then!

ThanksSTD..Cobra Bafflers...never used hybrids before but they simply soar with so little effort...had a Mizumo set previous and only wished i'd ditched them earlier..The Cobra Driver is giving me an extra 30 yds..its got 12 degree loft and i mistakenly thought it would send the ball to high but it just hits it straight and long..i'm 62 and hitting it 250yds in soft going

I'm completely bemused by the outpouring of emotion and the avalanche of praise and congratulatory messages pouring onto the thread, so as I'm not mistaken, he has only just played a round of Golf on a quiet Tuesday morning hasn't he? he hasn't just run into a burning building saving a mother and child from certain death, rescued a family from drowning in a submerged car or found a cure for cancer?

You hardcore Golfers are almost as fanatical and unhinged as the Cycling enthusuaistsGrin

If he told you he just became a dad for the first time it would probably have been met with  "meh" Laugh

Haven..honestly..you would have to play the game to understand..as the great Bill Shankley once famously said(about kickball admittedly).."Some people think its a matter of life or death..i don't like that attitude.I can assure them it is much more serious than that"..As one who has played the game for over 35 years i totally resignate with that.

Well done.  Why not write down every shot and club taken when its fresh in the memory.  It will be a nice read in years to some.
Over 45 years ago I broke 40 for 9 holes for the first time and can remember in detail every shot of the last four holes (in a storm).
