Report nomiskroy February 21, 2017 5:58 PM GMT
Well done bud. But does sound like your cheating yourself playing off 12.

Off a par of 72, your previous best of 76 would give you a handicap of 4 (ish).
Shooting a 75, would drop you to a 3 (ish).

Anywhere round my way, you wouldn't have anyone to play with. And would be labelled a right bandit.
Report twizzle22 February 21, 2017 6:04 PM GMT
Honestly nomiskroy my average score is normally in the middle 80's...those two rounds were totally freakish..i holed every putt going and had a fair few lucky breaks along the way..i deplore folks playing off the incorrect handicap and i can assure you i am most definitely no better than a 12
Report nomiskroy February 21, 2017 6:08 PM GMT
Don't doubt that at all.

I had a hole in one, feck knows how. But got clobbered handicap wise. Was off 23. Went down to 18. Just as a detterant I think.

Would love to be a genuine 12.
Report Fenway February 21, 2017 6:14 PM GMT
Congratulations on a great round twizzle. One of those rare days when everything goes your way.

I will achieve a long held ambition in July when I play the two courses at SUnningdale. I suspect I will be lucky to break 90.
Report STUDYFORM February 21, 2017 6:16 PM GMT
That's very very good, Twizzle. 2 more like that and you'll be off a much lower handicap.

As a golf course bookie (which I was for ages) I'd have your price a bit short in a pro-am team event.

I have never gone round in less than 100 on any course!

When I first had a go at golf - about the time you got your 76, I played at Hainault (The top course - much easier, I only tried the bottom one once), there was a par 3, of about 120 yards, so I lined up my 9 iron.... backswing, let go, skim the club head about 1mm into the ball and it goes about 3 yards to my right. So, I (all pizzed off) just walk up to the ball and hit it without lining up or looking...... Straight in the hole!!!!!
To this day the best shot I've hit. Unfortunately it doesn't count as a hole in oneSad
Report twizzle22 February 21, 2017 6:33 PM GMT
Laughgreat story Study..that would have been the 15th.When i first started playing in the 1980's i found the bunker on that hole.8 shots later i managed to extract the ball from the sand and plonked it on the green.I then 3 putted for aa 11.In temper i hurled my putter into the air and it got caught in the branches of a tree.I then spent over 20 mins throwing up lumps of wood to dislodge it much to the amusement of the golfers following our game.Cry
Report STUDYFORM February 21, 2017 6:43 PM GMT
Have you still got the putter?

I haven't been to Hainault in nearly 30 years, I should think. So I don't remember it that well. I do remember a very long UPHILL straight Par 5, which I once parred and was well chuffed. Now I'm back darn sarf, I might have to visit the place.
Is it still public?
Is there still a red shirt rule (that was Hainault wasn't it?)?
Has it changed much?
Report mad mad moon February 21, 2017 6:47 PM GMT

Report twizzle22 February 21, 2017 6:48 PM GMT
Fenway..Sunningdale is one of the few top course i haven't played but i know as i'm sure you do its a real beaut.I  was invited as a guest to play the magnificent St Georges hill in Weybridge last year...all the houses surrounding the course cost 20 mill upwards and i was in awe of the place.Anyway i was blown away by the experience even though i played like Jean Van DE Velde on the last hole at the open. All the cars in the car park were Bentleys, Rolls Royce's, Porche's..you get the picture.I was driving my wifes 10 yr old Fiesta.
On exiting the clubhouse i made my way over to the Fiesta only to find a group of golfers who i had been talking to chatting in the car park.I was embarrassed by my wife's   purple car so i took my mobile out and pretended to make a call but standing well away from the car.I was stood pretending to talk to no one for well over an hour before they all departed...what a plonker i was(and it was freezing)

Report twizzle22 February 21, 2017 6:58 PM GMT
Study..mmm is correct that's Chingford.Hainault is in very good condition presently seeing as its February and well worth a visit. When i first started playing there all those years ago you would have to queue up for ages before teeing off and it would take you the best part of 5 hours to get round.Today it took us 3 hours and the course was empty.During the week its only £13 to play and you also get the chance to stare at the lovely Josie's thrupenny bitsGrin

This thread has inspired me... I have played just 9 holes (the Essex garden course at Earls Colne) about 6 months ago. I was unspeakably useless in every department. Other than that no golf in 8 years - I gave my lovely clubs to a fellow forumite in lieu of some kindness shown to me. (By the way, I'd like my 10 iron back mate, if you can find it). I can add it to my new set of clubs (I was given them, they're fine, I think).

I intend to go back to Hainault, maybe Chingford and one place I played near Southend beginning with a B (which was very slopey as I recall), none of which I've been to in nearly 30 years.

Then it's Colne Valley, Gosfield, The Essex. All of which haven't been seen in about 8 (or more) years.

My aim is to break 100. If I do, I'll resurrect this thread and "Woo Hoo" with Twizzle.

You're in for a treat Fenway. When I played they had the results up for their monthly medal competition. Only five players took part in it. My kind of odds.
