so it turns out brian the presenter for the last 25 years of the great SOUNDS OF THE 60"S on radio 2 every Saturday morning at 8am,
wasn't ill as they have been telling us but AXED due to his age!
well seeing he was as good as ever, that he made the show, that the guy is something of a legend,i can foresee a mighty uproar about this, grrrrrrrrrrrrr!Angry

Terrible decision to take him off, BBC trying to say it was mutally agreed, not what Brian Matthew is saying !

Brian voted for Brexit, I hear, and also said he thought Donald was a good'un.

Also didn't have a raft of family also in BBC to look after him ... and wasn't a paedo.

All in all, not just their type.

Blacburn was always on borrowed time at the BBC after this.

Never a fan anyway Terry. I can remember him blubbering on his breakfast show when Tessa left him, soft buggger

^ Blackburn boasts he's slept with 500 women. That is nothing, Ken Barlow claims he has slept with 1,000 women. Bill Wyman says he slept with almost 2,000 women. Why do they have to count ?

I've slept with 1 woman 14,000 times.

Thats 14,000 woman sleeps, compared to their paltry 500, 1,000, 2,000.

Makes you wonder if he followed the ' t1ts first' protocol with all 500 or just got straight to business so he could fit them all in.

BBC plunge to even  deeper depths...Tim Rice is a nice enough chap but Sound of the Sixties IS the Brian Matthew show.  What a terrible deceitful way to treat a great broadcaster .

Thinly veiled "I've had 14,000 w4nks" imo.

Still impressive, nevertheless. Mischief

Janice Long and The Dark Lord also axed from the Midnight until 4pm slot . They will play repeats of Hits form the 60'S, 70'S AND 80'S through the night. I liked the Janice Long show after midnight, I feel she knew she was on the slippery slope after they stopped her having LIVE acts and guests in.

How long have you been married, mememe ?

46 years - happily, thankfully.

Sorry to disappoint you but I'm not available.

But just for the record, what are you offering and where do you live?  (Asking for a friend, sort of)

Bit harsh on Brian Matthew. He was doing OK. Still got all his marbles and a great depth of knowledge on pop music. I always enjoyed listening to him. Having said that, Tim Rice is a very good replacement. Quite polished. However, do feel a bit sorry for BM if he has been put out to grass.

Same with Janice Long and The Dark Lord. But not such a fan of these 2. Janice Long was in tears and could barely speak towards the end of her last show the other night.

"I feel she knew she was on the slippery slope after they stopped her having LIVE acts and guests in."

Probably, but giving an ageing DJ a slot after midnight is surely a sign they are on the slippery slope.......

This is sad.
I liked his show on Saturday mornings, very informative and interesting and I'd been wondering why Tim Rice had the gig.

Had it on yesterday morning and the wife asked what I was listening to and explained to her that I loved listening to Brian Matthew but he was off sick and thought he might not come back at his age and just hoped he was ok,but this is a bloody disgrace.Rice is ok but Matthew was a big part of presenting music in the 60s therefore a must for the show while he is willing and able.

Brian Matthew - a unique voice that has been with us for all those years. Great shame that he's gone imo. He was there on my parents radio in the '60's. Always reassuring to hear his voice on the BBC Light Programme.

latest plan is tony Blackburn takes off and the show starts at 6am ffs!
so the bbc are ruining the best they have, the same bbc who employ madeley, rice, ball, tarbuck, carr and o"grady as DJ"s, all sh!t and I bet don't come cheap

At least TB is a suitable replacement(although would still prefer Brian) but what the fook are the BBC doing in starting the prog at 6am..ridiculous decision but their again we are talking about the BBC whankorsCry

Also the new time slot starting at 6 is bonkers !

Agree, the show belongs to Brian Matthew, Tony Blackburn would be a good replacement eventually and Tim Rice is also very good, but BM has been treated very badly. Blackburn was fine on Pick Of The Pops and would prefer him doing that show than Paul Gambaccini.
