Dropping off rightly. Buzz Aldrin was seriously ill last year when he took sick at the South Pole.

I've read a fair bit about Gene Cernan both in his autobiography and those of others involved in the Gemini/Apollo projects.
He was a well liked and highly respected pioneering astronaut.
