He proved the existence of the ionosphere, which played an important role in WW2.My aunt Fanny knew his sister, Dorothy. We went to see her in Skipton in 1959-60 and he was visiting his sister. So you're young kenny, are the only words I remember him uttering.

Funnily enough not long after I went to the same school he'd attended many yeras earlier, and was placed in Appleton House, a 25% chance.

norman lamont when he was chancellor.

i was at a meeting at the treasury as a lackey. at the end of the meeting i started to clear projection equipment away and he asked me if i could come back in a few minutes as he had some other matter to deal with. he said please which i appreciated.

when i returned to his office to remove the equipment i briefly thought about stealing something just to get one over the establishment but my catholic upbringing wouldnt allow it. i also feared being sent to the tower if caught Shocked

This sounds like another Tory scandal to me. I haven't read it properly but got the gist. An extra curricular rendezvous in the board room and the request to remove equipment. We've been here before.

I once had a very brief conversation, and got a 3 word reply,  with one of the world's greatest footballers about another football legend.

Norfolk Gardens Casino, Bradford, circa 1985. The legendary John Charles had been attending a boxing night at the hotel next door.George Best had been booked as guest speaker, although he was well known for often missing appointments.  After the bouts had been completed, many of the audience, all  attired in dress suits and dicky bow ties, as was normal at these events, went next door to the casino to have a bet.

John Charles went straight to the roulette table, as he often did. I surreptitiously slid across and stood next to him.

Did George Best turn up, I asked between spins. Did he boloks was the 3 word reply.

Played roulette at the same table as Omar Sharif, Lord Oaskey and Judith Chalmers, in the Adelphi Hotel the night before the Grand National many moons ago. Not that they were important but a very glamorous evening.
Report kenny mann January 16, 2017 6:29 PM GMT
Amazing how many well known people are drawn to the roulette table.

I played at the same table as Eddie Large at the same casino I mentioned earlier.

There goes this weeks rent, he said, after throwing £20 on the table.

After a few losing spins he announced that he was so unlucky that if he was in a marching band he'd be the pianist.

Funny guy.

I used to live to live on something akin to Stella Street.  On a typical day you could see Alan Bates, walking his dinky dog eyeing me up , Noel Gallagher trying to look hard, Chrissy Hynde sounding bloody loud ,Alan (Fluff) Freeman looking confused, Robbie Williams looking fat and numerous bit part actors from the Sweeney and Minder  in the local pub looking pissed.
