"And as a cash buyer I got a really good deal on my new car" Has anyone tried to buy a car with cash lately? Salesman are only interested in selling you car finance as that's where they get their commission and they hate cash buyers. Must be plenty of mugs out there though as they seem to be making money.

I just seen it again and it sends a shiver down my spine. An actress reading off a card pretends to say they 'let' her say part of it.... Its so contrived it angers me.

Got a quote of them on the net then the guy came round to inspect the vehicle, it was 4 years old had 20,000 miles less than it should have had and not a mark on it. Offered me £2000 less than the original quote, told him him to do one and not waste my time. Avoid like the plague imo.

Out of curiosity, Mr Spock. Was that £2k less that they offered you, a third, or more than a third less than they quoted? I'd imagine the initial offer they give you (in person) would have to be around half, to bargain in any bartering?

Buying stock for their parent company BCA (British Car Auctions) which then finds its way onto the secondhand car fronts so there has to be plenty of margin on the price they offer, you could enter the car in the auction yourself pay the sellers commission and be far better off. As someone pointed out its a waste of time trying to negotiate a cash discount with dealers as all the money is made from selling the finance.

About 10 years ago, I tried selling a car privately through Auto Trader and it was a mare. Only interest I got for it was from conmen and time wasters. The car was clearly too expensive to sell that route. Ended up selling it to someone I knew.

They don't buy any car anyway. My neighbour put details on there of a car he'd just bought to see if he'd paid over the odds. The only reply he got was a screen showing a laughing emoticon
