Ironically, I do believe it stops them descending into dementia.

Joking aside bodil nobody can prevent dementia. My mother died of it and Ms stew's father has it. I only mention that because it's officially the biggest killer in the UK now, overtaking heart disease and cancer. I've said it before but when I go I hope it's with the latter as to have a wee chance.

A few moments ago I had the answer to all problems regarding family, old age, social support, the NHS and welfare.  Then I had a coughing fit and I think it was ejected from one of my nostrils.  I'm prodding it suspiciously - and it's emitting the odd squeak but it doesn't look convincing. I'm probably going to flush it - I'm sure I can count on your discretion.  Better luck next time.

And disturbing the flow does delay dementia.  An active brain stays active for longer.  Challenge them.

An active brain stays active for longer.    I've heard that before bodil but sadly there is no scientific proof. But hey, what do they know?

All I can say is that it strikes at random. Nobody is immune.

Studies done on it say group therapies in older age do better than isolation

The other 'truth' - older people who live with younger people become physically and mentally younger.  Younger people who live with older people visibly age.

There's plenty of scientific proof that an active brain resists ageing.  As in shedloads. Make that effort?

Sorry to correct you but once you're diagnosed with dementia it's a one way ticket, regardless of your surroundings.

Down to 6 others - I'm gone.  Tomorrow (or the day after) I will return sober and wholesome and everything will be alright for ever and ever.

I can agree with some of that bodil but when dementia kicks in....

Anyways I'm off to have my third large Smirnoff. Will it be the last?

1/3 no, 11/4 yes.

Just saying that isolation leads to desolation in people even in their 50s , I don't wont to get political but Thatcher spiv culture done the world no good ,

this is not the place to get political now anxious, trust me. Many will come back to you and say that although Thatcher closed many mines what wasn't reported was the fact she made sure the miners who were 'paid off' received good lump sums and benefits/pensions.

Meanwhile, China is cutting it's coal production by 30% due to the fact many chinese in the capital have to stay indoors to bteath properly.
