Probably thought that his cushy number was about to hit the buffers and his shortcomings would be exposed...

seen footage of this guy on sky news... he's dead or should be? Not one hint of a smile, he's the most glum chum I've seen ever. He's an ambassador? aren't they meant to be friendly? an out going individual. he looked like someone left behind in a services car park by a tour bus.

We have to drain the swamp and get rid of all these people with experience
who are qualified to do the job I'm sure Farage has some mates in the pub
who could do a far better job.

Rogers served in HM Treasury, including as Private Secretary to Kenneth Clarke, Chancellor of the Exchequer. He then was seconded to the European Commission as Chief of Staff to Sir Leon Brittan, returning to be Director, European Strategy and Policy and later Director of Budget and Public Finances under Gordon Brown.[2]

In 2003, Rogers was chosen to succeed Jeremy (later Sir Jeremy) Heywood as the Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister, Tony Blair. After three years in this role, Rogers left the civil service in 2006 to become Head of the UK Public Sector Group at Citigroup. In 2010 Rogers transferred to be Head of the Public Sector Industry Group, UK and Ireland, at Barclays Capital from 2010 to 2011.[2]

In 2012, Rogers returned to the civil service as the Prime Minister's Adviser for Europe and Global Issues and the Head of the European and Global Issues Secretariat, based in the Prime Minister's Office at Number 10, replacing Jon Cunliffe who had become the senior British diplomat at the EU. On Cunliffe's move to the Bank of England the next year, Rogers succeeded him again, moving to Brussels in 2013

Who's to say he wasn't pushed?  Convenient excuse in place for inevitable "delays" plus a leaked comment that negotiations might take 10 years.  Just paving the way for non Brexit.

In developing news, light is being shed on the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.  It is understood that the pilot held a referendum amongst the passengers and crew on which direction to fly the plane, and the passengers wanted to head straight into the Indian Ocean.

Apparently the in flight food and entertainment had been going downhill and a majority of the passengers thought they could catch some fresh fish. Many had watched the Disney film Bedknobs and Broomsticks andtook the film as their inspiration.  After all the food and entertainment couldn't get any worse.

Ho ho ho,Brexit is a piece of cake no problems there move along now nothing to see here..

Inerja - I was recovering from a very good night and didn't really grasp it all but they were banging on about totally unrelated stuff about kingdoms and empires weren't they?  I would have thought if we were talking about great empires, then certainly we would be looking at the hundreds of years of the Republic but maybe not so much about what happened the next few hundred. 
How does this compare to the EU  - the EU is a busted flush and has never attained anything like the Republic achieved. Don't see why there is any similarity except the dictators failed the final hundreds of years of the ex republic.  In the same way, so have the dictators of the EUSSR. 
You would have thought sky would have concentrated on these failings instead of providing a supposed poll of only a small sample with fixed questions to get the result they want to start scare stories so they can run the three day programme

Another classic was emphasising how one third of their silly poll were pessimistic about the economic future. No mention of what the other two thirds thought!

Better to have someone aware of all the pitfalls then someone with a big smile and ignorant rhetoric negotiating.  If you are buying a house you don't want someone negotiating the deal to think the house is lovely, you want someone who can see all it's faults.

When Blair entered Downing Street 15 out of 17 senior mandarins were replaced quickly with loyalists,many of whom have not been moved on under the conservatives. It is welcome news another Blair loyalist,a potential renegade if ever there was one,is gone. We need to see a few more gone to ensure a positive approach instead of persistent negativity.

After working there for many years I know full well how the FCO works. It can be a harsh, spiteful place at times where you do not want to upset the apple cart. All ambassadorial appointments have to be chosen by the board, approved by the Foreign Secretary and then signed off by the Queen. There is no way Rogers would have been put forward for anything that he would have wanted after the mess he left behind him and the embarrassment he caused the FCO and government. He would have been lucky to have been put in charge of the stationery cupboard. He hasn't quit because he wants to, he's quit because he knows his career as a high level diplomat is over. Wouldn't surprise me to see him pop up as a Labour Party advisor or similar.

We can't have people working for the Government if they do not want the country to succeed regardless of how hard the road may be.

Yes we don't need people who were as Loyal as he was.We need "Yes Men" with blinkers and ear-plugs...

He was a Blair yes man for the liberalista EU agenda, now that is finished we need different types.
