Personally I can't remember how life was without these things but I am pretty sure we never longed for them to be invented.

[1] Talk to each other face to face.
[2] Read books.
[3] Argue about "facts" that couldn't be instantly verified by googling.
[4] Constantly be in awe of the wondrous invention of sliced bread.

I remember when I was a kid, this was about 30 years ago, you had computers and I'd play pacman whenever I could

internet wasn't a big thing then and everyone seemed perfectly happy

no everyone is obsessed with it, weird

You talked, you read newspapers, you watched TV ,  you went to the  cinema ,you read books ( a lot)  And wrote letters.
And you talked for hours on the phone. Red telephone boxes. A and B buttons, 2d, 3d,6d, 1 shilling,
Happy days.

Coach, pubs didn't really die until the smoking ban
Report Hamsterdam December 30, 2016 10:43 PM GMT
Smoking ban coincidental to the demise of pubs though. Millennials don't go out boozing. Even the older lot stopped going out on the p!ss in exchange for 'experiences' they could post/show off on facebook with.

Never touch any social media myself... why would anyone of 'age' want to?
Report Ibrahima Sonko December 30, 2016 10:56 PM GMT
I did when it started as i was a techno geek, at the beginning i had websites in the early 90's hoping to make money from ringtones.....

Now, I hate all of it. Social media is all about who is pretty and who goes on better holidays than you. They have never been to Cornwall imho.
Report Aspro December 30, 2016 11:08 PM GMT
I will admit I did touch Facebook, quit, and then was convinced to try again. I quit again soon after (2010) and have had no desire to return to that or any other similar site.

And yes, I have been to Cornwall so all is good

Cornwall good but not a patch on Devon

Nights out with your mates were harder because they actually took planning. Admittedly only about a minute's worth of planning but even that is beyond anyone under 30.

You had to arrange to meet (say) outside the cinema at half past seven and if they weren't there you then had a quandary: had you been stood up? Had her bus been delayed? Was she at the other cinema round the corner? Was she waiting inside the cinema because it is a bit cold or started to rain? You didn't know what to do. These days you get to within about a mile and within half an hour then just phone or text the other person -- "I'm here; where are you?"
Report scandanavian_haven December 31, 2016 10:07 AM GMT
was it a blind date Ramruma ?

maybe she did turn up, saw what you looked liked, and went home Laugh
