Things even respectable people say without knowing the origin.....

Have to admit that these didn't occur to me before recently....eg

"You jerk" and "You sucker" and one which my devout late sister said, when a room was in a mess..."It's like a glory hole"!!

I never asked her what she meant.

Also when it was cold she would say "It's brass monkeys without any idea of where it came from...."

Are there any more to add?
