We gotta make this world a better place ourselves, so things like this don't happen
I doubt the death penalty is the answer, although this man could hardly complain!

FS people used to do worse than the original post in the NAME of god. The things even the christian church used to do to people is horrific, far worse than that.

God - that is, Jesus Christ - doesn't forgive individual sins...He forgives the condition of SIN itself...Jesus became SIN on the cross and engulfed sin completely, which was replaced by eternal life and eternal love. In the Old Testament, Moses raised the brass serpent in the desert, symbolizing stern judgement and pre-figuring Jesus crucified.
Jesus said there was only one sin which could never be forgiven, and that is to sin against the Holy Spirit - this sin is when someone consciously knows love and mercy and grace but still chooses to reject all these good things.
Well...you did ask...

Used to be price list as well.
WTF?? Church selling pardons to vulnerable people.
Still conning people who are vulnerable/needy.
Any other business and the Govt would have closed them down

i think you mean indulgences which were paid so that the priests would pray for the deceased, to speed up their progress through purgatory.
A nice tidy little earner if I don't say so myself.
You might think Mormonism and Scientology are f*cking bonkers and their believers staggering gullible, but the catholic church has been outdoing them for donkeys' years.

It's not uncommon in say the dungeons of foreign castles, as a tourist attraction, to have little exhibits to show what we used to to to each other, often in "the name of god". I've seen a few, as of course I'm widely acknowledged as the forum's most travelled and intellectual participant .
FFS if half of that is true, he's not a very nice man. Or, intervening and saying "I don't want you to do that in my name" would be another option.
Lettng medieval tw*ts cut a man in half starting from his arse isn't a thing I associate with a benevolent god.
Still, by present progress the BBC will be advocating that in 10 years time to avoid appearing "racist".
