She found "high levels of social and economic isolation in some places, and cultural and religious practices in communities that are not only holding some of our citizens back but run contrary to British values and sometimes our laws".

Her report highlighted the plight of women in some Muslim communities, who she said were less likely to speak English and more likely to be kept at home.

Afraid of being dubbed racist, afraid of losing support, afraid of challenging minority communities - that is Dame Louise Casey's view of Britain's decision-makers.

4.1m
population increase 2001-11
50%+
of the increase is due to immigration

27% of births in 2014 were to mothers born outside the UK

New immigrants could have to swear "an oath of integration with British values and society"

Unfortunately, I'm now (very sadly) relying on the rise of the right to protect my culture.

Our politicians have let us down disastrously - and I'm not proud of my feelings now.

But we have to say stop somehow.

It's a b1tch isn't it?

Nothing would ever drive me into the arms of the Right - racism is wrong, full stop.

I can thoroughly understand though how people feel utterly let down by democracy and that, even when voting in a binding referendum, have their motives and what they voted for called into question (at best) and ignored (which seems eminently possible).

forget the nonsense of considering yourself to be English or British. When a country gives away its citizenship too freely then these terms are meaningless. To consider yourself part of a country you have to, at least more or less, believe in the values and culture and religious and political beliefs of that country.
In England there will be thousands, millions of people with whom you will have no common ground on the most basic and
vital principles.
If you were to understand what they believe and the sort of society they would wish to create it would be quite startling. almost unbelievable.
no do not consider yourself to be English or British, or to have any duty or responsibility in that way.
Report lfc1971 December 5, 2016 3:37 PM GMT
what people don't understand about democracy is that it depends on segregation, it is impossible to have democracy or nation states without segregation. Why? because people believe different things.
some of the things that people believe you wouldn't believe :)

Globalisation - dilute all existing strong cultures with mass immigration.

It removes all traces of national identity.

Therefore to be British is to be Muslim. The Right have been warning us for years but we were so scared of being called racist we didn't listen.
Report Burton-Brewers December 5, 2016 3:39 PM GMT
apparently the women in these northern slums are so insular that up to 75% of them actually think the UK is a muslim country.

The problem will arise simply because not all cultures are nice, some are and some come close to being beautiful, Japan for one ?
However many more are barbaric and produce nothing but fear and repression.

just to clarify my brief comment.

I abhor racism. Judgement based on colour of skin is just wrong and illogical.

But we need to get a grip on sub cultures and stop minorities oppressing their own and threatening us and our traditions.

Stop "faith" schools for a start - WTF ... mumbo jumbo medieval nonsense ... CofE, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim etc ... poor kids being brainwashed by bigoted adults

She could have discovered all this 20 years ago.

I can remember going into an "anorak factory" about 1985 which was entirely staffed by asian women. The guy in charge (asian) had to unlock the doors to let us in and locked them all in again when we left. Purely for their benefit of course.

Strange as it seems, I think some of the problems are caused by the BBC/C4 and other "organisations" that use discrimination to mend discrimination.
In the first place it didn't need mending all that much, it's just the ex-media studies students who create and support minority things and come up with "Black awards" for nearly everything, "Black season" on TV, The same for "Asian" and "Muslim" they who also get offended on behalf of black and Asians who aren't actually remotely offended by nearly all the things the 'offence' is being supposedly felt by. Then there's the dedicated TV and radio channels. Add to this the quota of "ethnic minorities" which is on every ad, or sport, news or panel show. (If only they could find a black or Asian superstar snooker player).

Especially Radio 5 live, the most PC of them all.... There would be nothing more grist for their mill than someone eating a Banana at a premiership match, that'd keep them in righteous indignation for 3 days!

Anyway, in the end loads of people get fed up with the "unfairness to all minorities" being pushed at them all the time and end up resenting the ones getting the unreasonable attention.

So, I would say more grief is caused than relieved.
