The question I was (badly) trying to ask was 'name any Muslim community around the world that best represents Islam'.

For many, Saudi Arabia is perceived to be the home of Islam. What parts of life within SA do Muslims want to be replicated here?

i do wonder if it's the case where A,B and C1 encounter more diverse and progressive muslims, while C2/D and E encounter more conservative muslims and both groups believe their own experience is representative, when neither is right.

I'll throw Salafism, Wahhabism, and Deobandi/Hanafi into the ring. I'm sure there are other groups.

The Ahamdiyya sect are not considered Islamic in Pakistan. Nor here it seems by the murder of Mr Shah in Glasgow this year.

They and possibly the Sufis are the better expression of Islam.

given that at least 50 percent follow the deobandi teachings how did they manage to get such a 'representative' group of muslims.  Talk about a set up. Nearly all of them are very reasonable people but they are very young and totally unrepresentative of the  muslim population. Even more, not representative of its sect leader who rule the roost at their local mosques.

I am not watching this prog because I am watching a MI6 training film called On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but I hope it shows the peaceful religion of Islam in a good light, because as we know by watching the BBC that all terrorist attacks are carried out by mentally ill people of Asian origin, never Muslim terrorists. the problem is that there is a massive selection bias. deobandis wouldn't appear on this program.

it is amazing that trevor phillips survey ("what muslims really think") where they surveyed muslims from wards with a greater than 20% muslim population received pretty stern condemnation as being implicitly racist because of apparently flawed sampling techniques, but no doubt this program will be lauded for showing british muslims in a fair and positive light.

the answer, like most things in life, is neither black nor white, it's a shade of grey, and programs like this make no attempt to find out exactly which shade.
