And the airport of destination had him circling due to another planes having tech issues. He was then told he was 4th in line to land and only then did he admit to air traffic control that he had an emergency fuel situation. So they were fast tracked to land next.....
Then it fell from the sky.
Yes, the pilot missed his pitstop. And the airport of destination had him circling due to another planes having tech issues. He was then told he was 4th in line to land and only then did he admit to air traffic control that he had an emergency fuel si
Not the first time this has happened. Pretty rare occurrence running out of fuel, but it's happened more than a few times within the last 40 years or so.

Cost cutting on fuel levels. Claims from pilots that companies are putting them under pressure to cut to the minimum the amount of emergency fuel carried. Ryian Air was cited after Spanish inspectors found them to have carried less than minimum requirements. This means in an emergency, or when needing to wait to land they are in danger of running out of fuel. Individual pilots who don't stick to the bare minimum as stated by some companies will find themselves disciplined. The danger then is that less than that legally required will be in the tanks. The fuel gauges in any event will not necessarily be exactly accurate when tanks are being filled. They are trying to cut costs to the minimum.

plane was flown by its owner ,a one plane company Many contributing factors will emerge in due course but sounds like it was failure to convey to ATC the severity of the situation from an early stage and failure to make the correct decisions quickly enough Factors like the penalty for landing without correct reserve fuel levels ,which are severe ,the subsequent loss of a significant contract ,the airlines financial situation sounds stressed and looks like many poor decisions were made as a result . In due course a full report will be issued ,but ultimately it is not going to read well imo . If the reported electrical failure is correct it would have made a very bad situation next to impossible . Talk the flight was slightly delayed on runway before take off ,original route plan was changed due to several factors ,sounds like a complete failure to make correct decisions from before take off and then not acting quick enough to prevent disaster . Of course there may be other factors and thats why a interim report will take several months and a full report up to two years . RIP the dead .

The electrics will run off a generator in the engine(s) so if the fuel goes off that'll cut out. But some planes will have an emergency little windmill that pops out to supply emergency electricity, not sure if this one has it, so the electrical problems may be related to fuel problems?
lfc this plane was apparently at close to max range even with 100% full tanks. But the charts seem to show it was put in a holding pattern so I'd be looking at the air traffic control and why they weren't letting a desperate plane land.

landing gear was also deployed early causing further drag ,maybe deliberately ,but ultimately commercial decisions have forced the hand here ,reserve fuel is needed for a reason and this crash shows it all too well .
of course other so far unknown reasons will become known imo but all in all its an entirely avoidable loss of life .
sounds crazy another plane had a prob at exact same time and maybe this is a regular occurrence in that neck of the woods to mask fuel stops which breech aviation regs ...

I have recently been watching Aircrash Investigates in a box set style. The list of causes makes you shudder , child at the controls , screws not replaced in wings , not enough rivets , covering up of cracks , wrong instrument panels replaced .......... 4 crew members all trying to sort out a failed 12 cent bulb nears the top of the most staggering causes. Running out of fuel is a regular feature ,different measurement systems being used by the fuel people and the pilots for example. But you would have thought by now that no pilot would allow his plane to even approach this problem

2258 Eldar: Why's it turning? 2259 Kudrinsky: Is it turning by itself? 2260 Eldar: Yes ... it is 2261 Kudrinsky: I don't know why it's turning 2266 Eldar: Is it going off-course? 2267 Piskarev: We're entering a holding pattern 2268 Kudrinsky: Really? 2269 Piskarev: Of course. 2270 Makarov: Guys ...
The plane exceeds a 45-degree bank angle. The g-forces increase, making it difficult for Kudrinsky to return to his seat.
2272 Kudrinsky: Hold it! Hold the control column 2275 Makarov: The speed ... 2276 Piskarev: The other way! 2277 Kudrinsky: The other way, turn it left 2281 Piskarev: Left! 2281 Kudrinsky: Left... The other way! 2282 Piskarev: Left! 2284 Eldar: I am turning it left! 2284 Piskarev: To the right! 2285 Kudrinsky: To the right 2288 Piskarev: Can't you see, or what?
Altitude warning and autopilot disengage warnings sound in quick succession. The plane begins to descend at speeds of up to 1000 feet per second.
2291 Piskarev: Turn right. Turn right! Turn right! 2297 Kudrinsky: RIGHT! 2298 Piskarev: To the left, There's the ground! 2303 Kudrinsky: Eldar, get out ... Climb back out ... Climb back out, Eldar. You see the danger, no? 2314 Piskarev: Throttles to idle!
The first officer pulls out of the dive, but over-corrects. The aircraft now starts climbing almost vertically.
2319 Kudrinsky: Eldar, get out! Get out, Eldar, get out ... Get out, Eldar, get out, get out ... get out ... [gasping] get out ... Get out, I say! 2334 Piskarev: Full power! Full power! ... Full power! 2336 Kudrinsky: Got full power, got it 2337 Piskarev: Full power! 2338 Kudrinsky: Got it ... 2340 Piskarev: Full power! 2346 Kudrinsky: I gave it full power, I gave it 2348 Piskarev: What's the speed? 2350 Makarov (?): Look on the left, it's three-forty 2354 Kudrinsky: ... Okay ... [sobbing] Full power! 2365 Piskarev: Speed is very high 2367 Kudrinsky: High, is it? 2368 Piskarev: Yes, isn't it? 2369 Kudrinsky: I switched it off 2371 Piskarev: We're coming up, coming up! 2377 Kudrinsky: Done 2382 Piskarev: Gently! ... ****, not again 2388 Kudrinsky: Don't turn it right! The speed [unintelligible] 2392 Piskarev: There! 2393 Kudrinsky: We'll come out of this. Everything's fine ... Gently [unintelligible], gently ... Pull up gently! 2400 (17:58:01 UTC) [Sound of impact, end of recording]

There was an Aeroflot crash which had a young brit on board , from my town.It showed his family and the tree of life with his plaque in the large park he was fond of. We went cycling last weekend and found the plaque as well as the one to 2 year old Jamie Heaton killed in the gas explosion by the monster next door to where he lived . I live almost a mile from where the explosion was but not only heard but felt a ripple of air pressure hit me.
