I had an operation today with, as I say, a general anaesthetic. was out for about 2 hours, I think. I came to in recovery wanting a hug or cuddle from someone, but the only nurse listening said "no". Mind you when I came too a bit more I said "I didn't want you to jump into bed with me, just a little hug would have done". Once back on the ward 10 mins later and from then on, I haven't felt tired at all
Weirdly, I was very worried about the general. More than the op in fact.
Anyway, I got home at about 5.30, have eaten loads, had a couple of wees, (am in bed other than toilet), been on phone about 2 hours and despite being told I'd be sleepy/drowsy/not with it and despite trying to find any precedent online. I feel fine and awake and if I could walk (can't, op was on leg), I'd feel like walking to the pub.
Has anyone else had or come across this before? To be honest I could do with a good night's kip, I was up and out bloody early this morning.
I've been under general 3 times in my life and every time I've felt great afterwards - prob cos I I've had a great kip (I'm a chronic insomniac so that's a bloody luxury). The hugging thing I didn't experience - but I imagine its just some of the after effects of the drug, bit like taking Es and getting all happy ?

This is why I created the thread. Loads of warnings, advice and leaflets from the hospital saying I'd be out of it for up to 48 hours, I might feel sick, have memory loss etc... So I've tried looking it up online and found nothing. I just feel sort of normal (as normal is for me anyway). Not hyper, but not tired. It's weird. I'm going to put the computer down in a min and try to go sleep.

I've had a number of ops including 8 hours of surgery on my ear (dog bite). After coming round I was advised to call for help to use the toilet. I didn't listen and blacked out taking a pee. Can't recall how I felt after each op though as they were years ago.
wishing you well Study!

I've had a couple of 90 min naps, I'm not in much pain, just a little discomfort, so it's not that. My need to pee is double the usual though. I'll be doing that sitting down to be on the safe side, I think.

Had a general many years ago and woke up really happy drunk. The nurse told me it had took them/me ages to wake up which has always played on my mind ever since. Would be a little scared knowing I was going to be put out again.

Thanks Hank, You've been slapping me about lately!
I was a bit fearful too, bigmo. One of the things I had wondered was whether they might have given me something to wake me and that it might have still been in my system. There have been no after effects of the general at all. Or maybe I'm just lucky! Though that isn't the usual adjective I'm associated with.

Last op was 2001. Was out for an hour and half (so they told me), and after waking, the nurse told me I'd had a tough time under the anaesthetic, breathing etc., but not too badly. Took a few minutes to come round, and felt great. Wheeled me back to the ward, and I got off the trolley myself, sat on the bed and read the newspapers. I felt as if nothing had happened, and only when I looked at the scar on my stomach believed they'd actually done something! had some very small yellow tabs over the next couple of hours and was discharged the next morning. Been put to sleep by dentist once since then, and felt groggy for hours after.... do they use different stuff?
