I've had high blood pressure for a while which my doctor has been working on. I've also had a few issues with the pills he has given me to control it but what can I do; it needs to come down!
Anyway, 2 weeks ago he put me on another low-dosage pill and asked for a blood test two weeks later. Had the test yesterday and expected to wait 3-5 days for the results.
Got home last night, chilled and relaxed for the evening, when I get a call from the doctor telling me I must stop the new pill "IMMEDIATELY" - I must pick up a prescription first thing the next day (today) because my potassium is in the danger zone. I kid you not, the phone call stated that it is low enough to be "life threatening" (their words, not mine)
I've since found out that normal potassium levels are 3.5 to 5.3 (figures vary slightly) and under 2.5 it is drip-fed potassium via a hospital trip. I was 2.4 so the doctor decided to put me on some new (potassium) pills first, starting today, and INSISTED on another blood test on Thursday... he wouldn't even let me arrange a more convenient Friday.
After doing some research this potassium level is pretty dangerous chit and if it doesn't come down, I might be having my meals paid for, for a few days.
One never knows what's round the corner... but I'm 'ard
Do you know what Jed? I was more shocked at the timescale for the blood test; just 9 hours! Interesting stuff though... better stock up on those radioactive bananas me thinks!

So many pills have so many side effects, aspro, (well not aspro as others) But at least it was spotted fairly quickly and the blood tests are being taken notice of.
I've had a few weird, interesting or dangerous things happen with different pills - even in the last few days. They're just controlled poison after all.
So if anyone asks "What's your poison?" you can tell them "A pint of anything that won't buggger me Potassium levels, please". That'll throw the barmaid!

I was eating raw spinach and bitter salads to get the daily requirement of Potassium. was getting chest pains and went to hospital. They gave me sodium chloride and potassium chloride in an IV - eight hours. the potassium one stung like a bustard for four hours going in. I think the lethal injection in the USA is potassium chloride? must be higher concentrations? I was taught if you have high blood pressure there is a reason for it. one guy on ytube was saying that a man escaping from East Germany was shot escaping.. shot up his kidneys. therefore the body compensated by pumping his blood round faster. Giving him high blood pressure. It still had to filter the blood, with whatever function he had left. A giraffe has high blood pressure because the blood has to travel up a ways... it can be a natural response to an existing condition.
Are your kidneys functioning okay, can cutting out toxins in the diet improve kidney filtering.
just eat a banana a day? FK. 350 mg of potassium in one banana, 5500 a day needed. you'd kill yourself trying to eat that many. Green, bitter salads have wack amounts of potassium. bowlful a day. See Dr Eric Berg on youtube. potassium deficiency.
