I know you are one of the most dense people on the forum, nay, the internet - the intellectual equivalent of a lead slab - but surely even you must be able to work out I'm clearly quoting a joke by another regular poster @ 11:55am?

Shocked

Despite that I am a fan of Castro, he took over a country totally corrupted by American business interests.

He found like other leaders, Communism is not easy to get to work, but he tried.

One reason he has found it so difficult is because the USA made it very difficult for Cuba.

One big fault of the USA is they are an incredibly vindictive country.

Any one crosses them they never forgive them, they have still not forgiven Vietnam. This does not help the World.

There is a bit of capitalism in Cuba now, which is needed.

I wish them well for the futureHappy

some facts about castros cuba;

cuba has been a one-party dictatorship for 60 years.

it operates a total media blackout. news, radio and tv are banned, even the guardian and bbc.

no cuban has been allowed freedom of movement since the socialist revolution. none of them have a passport.

before castro seized power there were 4 prisons in cuba. he swiftly set up a network of over 100 slave labour camps where 'enemies of the people' were brutally tortured. nobody knows how many were locked up for political reasons, but estimates range from 400k upwards.

trade unions are banned, as are any social organisation not controlled by the state. despite this, and contrary to his claims to be a democrat above all else, corbyn is a big fan.

desperate cubans try to flee the paradise on anything that will float. unknown numbers have died or been brought back slave labour by cuban gunboats that patrol the waters keeping people in, not out. cuba would be empty if the military did not terrify the populace. families of those who escape are persecuted by the state.

tourism was banned by castro, who did not want his useful idiots to witness the misery of his people while he was privately immensely rich. that was until the downfall of the ussr, which kept him afloat and he became desperate for cash.

it is often said by truth-deniers that cuba has more doctors and teachers than anywhere else( although why you believe a dictatorship that operates a media blackout i dont know), but one profession not mentioned is lawyers; odd given that the cuban legal system is so efficient that 99% of defendants are found guilty.

vive la revolution!
cuba libre!

grappler I don't think you are right in saying he prevented everyone leaving, when there was an allowed exodus in the 80s, castro stuck his nastier criminals in with it, so they could create a crime wave in Miami...

Tommy Sheridan Retweeted CP MacLochlainn
The world is a poorer place after the passing of Fidel Castro. A giant in the struggle against poverty & inequality.

Apart from nearly causing a nuclear WW3 and choking his once prosperous country to death for his own gain he was a diamond geezer. Bet he was gutted when it was Che Guevara's poster that adorned student bedsits and not his.

If he had not existed the world would have been a better place and so would Cuba. Bye Fidel you self indulgent t0sser. Devil

He did not nearly start WW3...in fact he had every right to have nuclear weapons in Cuba.
What right did America have to say he cannot...it was not their country

I was at school but I remember the Cuban missile crisis..nobody knew what would happen??
The Russian ships carrying the missiles were sailing for Cuba and Kennedy said he would sink themShocked....
I remember us getting hourly reports on the Radio, the Russian ships are still going....
But in the end Khrushchev ordered them to turn round....I do not think Kennedy was bluffing, neither did Khrushchev.

Says it all that the BBC give a far more nuanced favourable report on a communist dictator of the oppressive firing squad type than Trump.

I suppose he didn't commit the BBCs cardinal sin of saying anything negative about their favourite religion...

I wonder what % of medical innovations and drugs used in their infamous medical service were invented in cuba or mother USSR and china, and what % were invented by the "capitalist scum" of the US and Europe?

I'm guessing it's more than a tad leaning towards the latter. Well to be fair, the chinese think eating powdered tiger pen1s cures impotence and rubbing rhino horn on your head cures baldness, so it's not like they've contributed nothing. (Towards animal extinction).

It's ok to crush all opposition and micromanage everyones lives and sh1t all over their freedom and kill your opponents if you're lefty.

Everything anyone "right" of centre is done is scowered for the slightest flaw or mistake.

I mean look at the sh*t thrown at Boris last week by the BBC etc because he made an off the cuff joke to an Italian about trading bubbly.
We know what he's like, he's always making quips like that, it's a total non story. It's not like he killed anyone. Err .. Castro did.

The problem you have is their no balance in your thought pattern , anybody to the left of Norman Tebbit or Ronald Reagan is automatically dismissed as a subversive or Communist.

Wow there must be something wrong with me. I must be the only person on the planet who considered Castro a communist.

The whole fact of him having been "First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba" thing must've lead me up a wrong "thought pattern".

The Cuban missile crisis had plenty to do with unilateralism on behalf of the yanks, which is another branch of protectionism.
The CIA got it all wrong and nuclear war was only averted due to a bit of good luck and conscience on behalf of the soviets.

The Americans already had missiles based in Europe on the soviet unions doorstep, but that's ok clearly because Uncle Sam makes everyone's decision for them it seems. What America didn't know was that USSR already had 200 in Cuba by the time of the blockade, so if the bravado of the stand off had gone over the edge America too would have been wiped out.

But America want to control the world either in plain sight or by proxy.

Those who denounce left wing politics as always this gulag mentality of control are conviently sidestepping (or frankly are blissfully unaware) that the 'free world' is entering into totalitarianism where politics is a joke and state spying is on steroids.
This 'we decide for you' not only serves up the poor at the behest of people with capital it also decides what you should do and think, the Internet isn't this governments possession yet snoopers charter and next banning porn are about to be enforced. Yet still the underlying system which its attempting to protect will crash cyclically as it always has (at least once every generation through history) and always will because all it does is tell lies to cover for their own vices and encourages systemic inequality.

It's like the morlocks controlling the eloi.

Hammond said the other day words to the effect 'German workers make in three days what it takes us four, this has got to change'.
Why?
So he's taken it upon himself to decide that the human is nothing more than a fleshy robot who's raison d'etre is to work harder so that other people can take out greater share of profit before any reaches the ones doing the work....but package it up under the euphemism of aspiration and competitiveness?

The US didn't have missiles on Russia's borders, it had missiles on Europes borders to stop Russia extending their dictatorship and oppression and murder into Western Europe. It was not going to allow Russia to extend its influence into South America. It was America. They already had one lunatic on their border and didn't fancy having a few more. Russis had enslaved half of Europe at this time, Ameruca stopped it doing the same in the west.
