Not sure how you can equate this to the poll tax.

I think exy is a bit confused or just being alarmist. I looked and insurance premium tax has gone from 10% to 12%, so a 2% rise seems to be nearer the truth.
It's an extra £2 per £100 saddo and at most will cost the 'poor working class' about an extra 5p per week.

10% to 12% is not a 2% increase. It's an increase of 2 percentage points .
A 2% increase on 10% = 10.2%
A 2% increase on 10% = 10.2%

And that's wiped out times - how many ? , by increases elsewhere right across the board, with frozen wage increases eroding the true value of net income.

Nothing wrong with a move to reduce direct taxation, as such.
About time there was a wholesale shake up and simplification of indirect taxes. There are so many and many of them are arbitrary, and based on increasing revenue and opportunism rather than fairness,
or the concept of a bigger picture.

I am guessing a few struggled with the eleven plus.

Most poor people spend more than they earn. The difference is supplied by HMG, how can this be of benefit to a country?

I have never worked in supermarkets but i have worked in worse places like factories.I can also say people in they work places be be skint and live week to week but you get good people who would give you the last pound in their pocket if you needed it more.

Less *net takers* ( those on top ups and other in and out of work benefits ) means less hand outs by the treasury.
When that money goes to shops only a % goes to the treasury. You are talking consumption.
